good morning hd forum. just traded streetbob for an 07 eglide standard. will never make fun of the elders again. you guys are right and i was wrong baggers are the fashnizzle. question is, i have noticed the glide does get hot very fast i am approaching the 1k service. will switching to hd syn3 help the bike run a little cooler? i know thats not the complete fix but if it will help i will surely make the change. i am not sure if the stealer is just pushing for some sales for the syn oil or if it really will help the bike run a littlecooler. any input is greatly appreciated. thanks guys.
The synthetic oils do seem to make the bikes run a little cooler. The mosy important thing seems to be that because the bikes run hotter that synthetis are the best choice for oil because they tend to be more stable under severe heat stress. The choices are many but the worst choice from listening to some, including the parts guy at my loacal stealer, is the HD syn 3. Amsoil, Mobil One, Royal Purple, these would be better choices. Do a search on this and you will find more than enough info on this subject. T.
Synthetic is the only way to go especially in an aircooled engine.Amsoil for example is good to nearly 500 degrees.Personally have used synthetics for over 35 yrs.
Many mile many Hogs.. Never found a difference in heat.. On a hot day stopeped in traffic ull be hot.I recall thedays when HD said NO to Synth oils !!!??? Remember, they never used to sell synth oils..
syn 3 is junk i ran it for about 1500 miles& dumped that $hitdont let them talk you into puttin it in the tranny or primary eather that is what gear oil is for mobl 1 in all 3 holes for me
will switching to hd syn3 help the bike run a little cooler?
Syn 3 is about at the bottom of the lineup and is not a true synthetic. Pick a better oil such as Mobil 1, Redline or equivalent and use that along with a good gear oil in the transmission. You'll be glad you did. Many have said that their engines are noisier using syn 3.
The purpose of the synthetic oil is that it doesn't break down like dino oils do at the hotter temps that the newer bikes are running at today.
Pass on the Syn3. My Mobile1 15/50 is all, not mixed synthetic typeand has more motorcycle-type additives in it to boot at half the cost. What cools my bike is the oil cooler and the PCIII tuning device. That takes care of oil and primary, andjust gearoil in the transmission.
