not a rumor, we own a smog center, this is first hand information from the Government, guess what, it is federal, you will all have to deal with it, takes effect on or before January 1, 2010.....
I do not have a link to information, in fact, I just did a search, I found nothing, our field rep from the bureau of automotive repiar is who told me about 2 weeks ago as he was admiring my newest Ultra Classic, he said, you know that you will have to remove the pipes the ecm software and the air cleaner don't you, I asked why? he said that by 2010 that there will be emissions testing for all motorcycles and light duty diesel vehicles... I said" you are crazy" he said" no, they are crazy, I just work for them" I said "Damn"
Texas doesnt even do emissions testing statewide on cars now.
"Which vehicles are required to have the emissions test? 1. Vehicles registered in designated counties. Designated counties include: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties." http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/insp.../item_insp.asp
Found out when I got the truck inspected in New Braunfels, TX that next year they were starting emissions testing on vehicles. If you have the stage 1 what has to be done to pass the test? Do you have to put your stock mufflers back with the original air box and remove the PCIII (in my case) or can you lean out your fuel controller and put your original air box on and leave the aftermarket mufflers? I think Dallas County is doing emissions testing. What do you guys do?
Thanks
Well, I figure the engineers who built these things within the constraints of EPA regs while trying to balance some of their idiotic customers' complaints when they *do* try to modernize have done a decent job and maybe I shouldn't go mucking with what ain't broke. I've owned a ridden *lots* of bikes over the years and I've never seen a group of riders so unhappy with their rather expensive purchases to the point of immediately making them "better" than Harley owners.
well, bad news for you, motorcycles will no longer be smog exempt, in the next 2 years, they will terrorize us just as they do cars..... too much fun.... you too will get to enjoy the task of getting your bike smogged.... I for one am not looking forward to it as i have no smog legal bikes.....damn government........
(sigh)
You do realize this *IS* all for a good cause, right? Or is that whole breathing thing over rated?

An' if it wuz applied evenly, ah might agree - but it ain't. All most have ta do is show that the repairs exceed a certain amount....an' they git a waiver.
