We recently dodged this bullet in California, the President of the California HD Dealer's Association convinced the Cal Air Res. Board thatimplementation of the April 7 scheduled emissions would be an enforcement nightmare and too complex. Amazingly they agreed.
Heard the same thing - BUT it will be enforced by Jan 1, 2010 - That ALL Gasoline operated vehicles licensed for the street WILL COMFORM to FED EMISSION STANDARDS... (That SUCKS)...
chornbe, the breathing thing isn't over rated, but the affect of motorcycle emissions on it is VERY OVER RATED. The EPA is just another govt' agency full of bored non productive morons that couldn't last a week working for a company that has a bottom line. When you pile a bunch of people up and give them a pay check funded by an endless income, (your tax dollars), they tend to look for a way to justify their job. Bikes this week weed eaters next week.
Harleys have run too lean for about a quarter-century with emission standards to blame. Never mind that the General Accounting Office (GAO) has told congress that motorcycles are an insignificant source of pollution; they are still regulated and stifled just the same. By forcing very lean air/fuel (AF) mixtures and regulating noise-emission levels, those stifling regulations have greatly robbed engine performance
This article >>>CLICK HERE<<< might help with some of the confusion - it's been around for a while though, so, you might have already seen it.
Do y'all actually get your bikes inspected? I got one on my new bike so I could get it registered, but I have never had a bike inspected before and I've never gotten stopped for it either. I guess I'm just a scofflaw.

Actually it's been pretty well proven that lawn mowers are far, far worse than the average, modern car by like a 10:1 margin, so the "weed eaters next" thing is not only accurate, but due.
Texas doesnt even do emissions testing statewide on cars now.
"Which vehicles are required to have the emissions test? 1. Vehicles registered in designated counties. Designated counties include: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties." http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/insp.../item_insp.asp
And I live in Polk county, we don't do emmissions on cars.
In California I heard something about they put oil coolers on the bikes and got them to pass emmissions. Did anybody else hear this and know if it's true.
EPA Enviromental Protection Agency. Who are they protecting us from Al Gore and the movie stars.
There has to be a way we can contact AMA and vote to have the EPA folks and Al Borevoted down along with the movie stars supporting it. Who put the EPA in charge to do all this ? Is it not reversable.

Never heard that one yet... But then again Calif doesn't require smogs\epa tests as of yet - There scheduled to start Jan 1 2010???
