Default 80 - 90 mph with batwing....

OK...I'm stupid here so try not to flame me too hard. I'm asking this as a serious question.

I'm moving to a touring bike and while reading the threads I have seen a lot about the difference of riding the RG vs anythingwith a bat wing at 80 +.Can someone explain the 80 plus thing? (I get the truck thing). I ride with a full windshield all the time now how would it be different?.

I rented a EG Classic and a RG in Hawaii for the dayand besidesheight felt little difference.I didn't get the chance to do 80 + though on either...heck I never got into 6th. I like the RG but the costof adding what I want might be too much.So I'm going for the Ultra....

I'm asking because around here 80 -90 can be a must if you don't want to get run over.

With what I have been reading it almost makes me want to rent them for one more day and do a run in a windy/ truck filled area....(yes, I actaully know a place I can go...)

All I can offer is go batwing so we can stand united against all these Roadglide converts over here in the touring forum

Seriously though, the roadglide has better handling because it is a fixed fairing and feels more stable at higher speeds. Having said that, I love my batwing and have done 100+ with no problems

I really have had no trouble with my batwing - if you are an experienced rider it's probably a nonissue, the fugly sharknose is a little more stable though.

First of all.... welcome to the bagger way of life. You won't regret it.

I have ridden extended miles on my RG at 80+ (we'll leave it at that) on a couple of occasions. I'm generally following my Dad on his SG when I'm doing it. He has no problems riding at those speeds. Dawg hit on the core of the issue. With the batwing bikes the fairing is mounted to the bars, same with your windshield. The RG fairing is mounted to the frame so the bars have nothing but you pushing on them. I think the shape of the RG fairing might help a little in strong winds as well, but they are still felt.

Either bike should comfortably do those speeds. You really should try to rent each one for a day. There are other differences you may or may not like. The RG fairing is way out in front, you might like the batwing because it sits closer. These are things you need to spend some time with and can't be decided on a 5 minute test drive.

I have had NO issues with my ultra at 75+. I can see however, where the RG would be less susceptible to side winds however, as the fairing is frame mounted.

Run 100 plus on selected roads in Canada and Montana with an Ultra.

Never been on a Road Glide as I find them esthetically unpleasing and an abomination before God and man. j/k on the last part.

Usually don't ride that fast but have been over 100 with my batwing and see no problems with your choice of the Ultra.

i usually don't ride that fast, but have had it up to 100 or so on a couple of occassions. No problems at all. Even with my Bushtec trailer on the back, it handles extemely well.

Anytime I've been above 75, the Ultra is steady as a rock. I also traded from an 06 Deluxe to the Ultra. No comparison at freeway speeds, IMO.

Good luck!!
