IDS ???
Just installed it. Got my bike (07 RK) in Feb. and it now has 9,500 miles on it. Initially noted about a 15-20% reduction in noise in gears. After about 75 miles today noticed the bike is still getting smoother and quieter. It wasn't really all that noisy to start with, but I wanted to try this. Seemed like it would reduce driveline wear.
However, the most notable effect is the smoothness it brings to all aspects of the ride. For example, the bang shift noise is reduced about 20% (and still decreasing) but more importantly it seems there is more feel to shifting. Likewise, downshifting to first is not as hyper sensitive to the throttle at slower speeds. Seems like the entire experience is enhanced.
I don't enjoy riding at very low r.p.m.s so I don't worry about lugging the bike and this mod doesn't encourage lugging. The engine sounds in the power range are not effected by IDS and in fact they are clearer, with the reduced gear noise. The whine in 5th is significantly reduced. IDS will not change the sounds that will tell you when you need to increase or decrease revs. It will smooth some of the pulses when you are lugging it, but they will be clear enough, especially as you get used to a smoother ride.
6th gear cruising is really quiet, in my limited experiences (4 bikes). Wouldn't want a Harley to get too quiet or too smooth. But, IDS in my experience is well worth the install effort and 200+ for the parts.
