help what tools do i need
Tie down straps,
Bike jack, for homemaintenance,
Rachet, extension,and sockets, SAE.
A 10 mm wrench.
Torx set for ratchet.
Definitely a set of Allen wrenchs, Plug wrench and plugs, Long screwdriver- phillips, to get the seat bolt out with the tour pak lid opened.
I like long ball end allenbits with a3/8 socket end for getting thepassenger boards off without hassle. Thelong ball ends will get in where you will struggle without them. They are not good for torquing with though, theytwist and give false readings.
I carry a 'impact tool' that you smack with a hammer and it breaks free or tightens bolts.
A hammer and crescent wrench.
I carry vise grips in any vehicle
Kinda like duct tapefor me
Teflon tape, and I carry the stick of blue loctite.I carry a bit of safety wire, zip ties, bungees.
Sounds like too much stuff, but I also like a piece of inner tube, big enough to cut strips off of for rubber bands.
You might also consider a rule or tape measure. You can adjust your primary chain tension and other things if necessary.
Maybe a funnel, if you need one to hit the hole.
*Note: I bought a set of torx for my rachet off ebay that were advertised as being for harley. They were cheap, soft chinese crap.
The twisted the soft metal off of them and are no good for ****.
I would buy quality that I could rely on if you're gonna bother carrying tools. I don't know what quality the sears black torx are. Considering them next.
Won't do you any good to have them, if they don't work*
I used to carry my service manual on rides, but it's too bulky, and unless it's far, I'll just have my cousin pick me and the bikeup and haulus, yeah, us,home to work on.
We just bought a small bike trailer for $50 at a yard sale.
Got the lifetime license on it, and we're beefing it up for better performance now.
Standard torx do fit Harley, but not tite nuff to prevent eventual damage to fasteners.
K/D tools makes a really decent set of torx plus that include all sizes you will need.....They come as sockets, so carry a 1/4 and 3/8's ratchets with extensions to drive them.
Don't forget plug kit and fix a flat.
Cell phone and credit card are also nice to have.
This should give you a pretty good start.
Ez
Also get a battery tender that will make the battery work longer.
