After installing my Wild-1 575 handle bars,my fairing mirrors were useless.I put handle bar mounted mirrors on and removed my fairing mirrors.I saw where SGLarry installed tweeters in his fairing so I decided to do the same.I used Memphis Audio tweeters.I was going to flush mount the tweeters, but they came with 45 degree mounting cups so I used them instead. No modifications to the fairing was necessary.I used the large hole in the fairing to run the wires throughand I used the small hole for the screw to hold the tweeters on.Using the 45 degree mounting cups points the speakers right at me and they helped improve the sound. The tweeters come with crossovers and I wired them straight into my5 1/4" JBLspeakers. Here's the photos:
I don't know if they're waterproof or not but they are not the paper type speakers.I believe that they are polyurthane. Here's their link: http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/
The bigger question is how did you mount the Wild-1 575 handle bars on the 08?
Actually,my H-D dealership(Harley Haven-Columbia,SC)did it.The only modification they had to do was to notch the handle bar(dremel tool) for the fly by wire throttle. All wires were ran inside the bars. They did not have to extended my throttle wires but they did have to re-route them to make them long enough. They also installedSS extendedclutch and brake lines. This has got be be one of the best and most comfortable mods that have done(had done) on my bike.
Spiffy! I'll need to move my mirrors for the same reason (wider handleabrs) and this is a clever use for the fairing holes.
What was involved in wiring them up? Is it a plug-and-play solution, or are we talking cutting and splicing? So easy a caveman can do it?
And pardon my non-stereo-guy ignorance, but what exactly does adding tweeters do for your sound?
Wiring the speakers was no problem. The tweeters plug into the crossovers(small boxes). The crossovers job is to keep only the highs going to the tweeters.I put 3-M tape on the back of the crossovers and stuck them on the inside of my fairing.I then wired thecrossovers positive wire to my 5 1/4" speakers positive wire and did the same thing for the negitave. The tweeters really help on the highs(cymbals, voice, notes).I would really like to have more bass but that's hard to get on a motorcycle.
