Hey guys, my friends thinking about buying a bike. But i want some input from you guys first if you dont mind. From what i know about the bike its an 01 Road Glide. The motor is a twin cam 88 top end. And an Evo bottom end. (any thoughts on that????) Also the bike has 117K on it. but the motor only has 17K and he's asking about 10K. Any further thoughts? thanks for your time.
I've heard of these frankenmotors most notably the Fatvo by Sputhe and the Merch Fatso 100" motors. They are supposed to be pretty nice for EVO bikes. I don't see how the running gear of a TCwould mount up to the EVO cases. I hope your friend is a good mechanicbecause there probably are't alot of wrench's out there that would work on it (not a bike you could just drop off at the local dealer and get it worked on).
I picked up my 2000 RG with 33000 miles this summer for 10k. I would keep looking there are better deals to be had.
Unless the motor is an aftermarket no such thing as a TC top end and an EVO bottom. Check the motor serial number to see if it is a genuine HD. Then look at connection between motor cases and trans, are they bolted together with no gap (TC) space between cases and trans (EVO/aftermarket)
The TC has bigger rods and the three bearings are thicker/longer;three hole oiling crank pin that is thicker; the cases are more ridgid/stronger/durable; plus the pinion shaft is about twice the EVO; ETC++++;I would have to ask why....
