This has probably been posted before, but has anyone used the oil temp / dipstick gauge made for the 2007 Touring bikes. I am looking at em but wonder how well the might work and if they are sturdy.
I have one that seems to work well enough. I bought it to see if the oil cooler did any real good, & a way to monitor the oil temp until I get around to mounting a guage in the fairing. It reads the temp as soon as you touch the button, but the oil level can't be read till the oil has time to settle. The oil temp drops quickly, so if you wait even a minute or two after shutting the motor down the reading will be lower than full temp. Biggest drawback is that I expect it to be stolen sooner or later since it has some value & no way to secure it to the bike.
I HAVE HAD 2 OF THEM. ONE ON 07 NIGHT TRAIN AND ONE ON MY 08 E/G CLASSIC. NO PROBLEMS HERE BUT NEED TO CLEAN THEM EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. EVER SO OFTEN I STILL CHECK MANUALLY JUST TO PUT MYSELF AT EASE. I INSTALLED OIL COOLER ON E/G AND LIKE TO WATCH TEMPS...RIDE SAFE
I have one on my 2007 Ulta. I am on the 3rd one now. When they get wet they leak and stop working. when they work they work fine. I'm getting 6 months service out of them so far. I'm going to make my dealer replace them until they redisign them so they wont leak. Harley has been in business all these years and still has not figured out that motorcycles get wet and the electrical stuff shoud be weather proof, ie; gauges, front lights. Go figure.

Have it on both our bikes (07 Ultra & 07 SG). Would I buy them again ? NO ! ! !
Wish I saw the posts here 1st. I like the idea of taking out the USLESS air temp
gauge in the fairing and replace it with a Oil Temperaturegauge in the fairing.
