I have a 2001 fuel injected Road King and typically when I hit the starter button it starts right up, but now it will hardly start and I have to hold the starter button down for 30 seconds or more to get the bike started. I put in a new set of plugs from Harley and when it would not start right up I removed the plugs and they were soaked with fuel. When holding the starter button on for the extended time I can hear the the engine firing more and more until I can let off the button and it will idle. The bike used to start right up, with higher RPM and drop down RPM when it warms up, now it seems to be dumping to much gas at start. Anyone had this problem before or knows what is going on. Thanks for the help!
I can't tell where your from but is it possible that the gas has been sitting for awhile? Maybe water in the gas? How does it run after you get it started?
Thanks all , I will try removing the air filter. I am in Tenessee and the bike is garage kept. I do not think there is any water in the fuel, but will consider draining it. It is dumping so much gas in when trying to start that it is wet fouling the plugs. It acts like stuck choke on a carb model or maybe a stuck injector. I am thankful for the info and welcome any more ideas.
FYI: Gas today is only good for 30-45 days before it starts to go bad. I use Sta-bil in my gas if my I know I won't use the entire tank of gas within 30-45 days.
