Speaker replacement is relatively easy, as for speakers I bought a set of Sony's over a year ago at Best buys and they still sound great. I only paid 69bucks for them.

It is an easy upgrade, the speakers are great, and it will give you a chance to check for a broken bracket in your fairing. If you search eBay you can probably find a great price on the speakers.

Are the JBL speakers waterproof or water resistant?
Also persons with Harley Soundsystem model years 98-2005 have 5.75 ohm systems. The JBL's are 2 ohm. model years 2006-2008 have the 2 ohm systems.
If the resistance is not matched on the speakers, they won't sound the same. Just an FYI.

I USED PIONEER speakers $45.00 from wally world and they kick a$$ louder than my buddys with hog tunes and the like. And for $45.00 you cant go wrong. As far as hard to due You can change them in about 20 min.

Just replaced the speakers in my friends '95 Ultra - went with J&M - Hog Tunes didn't list then for the '95
