Hello, I am new to the site, been reading it for about 6 weeks. just bought a 06 EG classic. The bike has 14,500 miles and I am the third owner. Rode metrics for years, Couldn't afford the HD till now. According to the HD SWR sheet the bike is under warranty till 3/31/07. Do I have to do anything to transfer the warranty? I have a problem with the lack of rear suspension. I can not make the bike move up and down verry much. I know a lot guys say the HD shocks suck but damm it just dosen't move. When I test drove the bike it rode rough,I thought it did not have any air in the shocks or even to much air. The first thing I did was buy the HD pump with a guage and check the pressure. No air, checked the manual and added the proper amount, still no movement. I can make the shocks go down by bouncing my weight 280lbs down but it takes forever for the shocks to rebound, like over a minute. Even found the rear chrome piece on the bottom of the fender has a broken weld. Any ideals what this is and do you think warranty will cover it. Thanks in advance!
The rear shocks suck, but a set of progrssive 440's as far as the chrome piece at the bottom of the fender, sounds like the rear bumper they break not covered.
Before you go out and order new Progressive shocks... verify if the shocks you now have are in fact the "stock Harley" shocks... It's tought these days to buy a used bike that someone hasn't tinkered around with or changed out parts.. Everyone has a personal preference on shocks and ride charsitics.
Broken weld on a a component may or may not be covered under warranty.. Better to go to a HD dealership to checkout and verify both issues..
You indicated the warranty was out 3/31/07. I assume you mean 08. Yes you have to transfer the warranty but that is easily done at a dealership at no cost. There is a problem with the shocks if they behave as you have described. Take it to a dealership. That as well as the bumper problem will be covered under warranty.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but you are looking for an actual and noticable extension and compression of your shocks as you add and remove air? It doesn't happen. The air shocks don't work that way. They are designed to hold a volume of air that works to dampen the stroke of the shock. I have an '06 and I ride solo at zero #. 2 up I run about 12-15#.
Is there an after market lowering kit on it such as a SoLow Kit or a RUB Kit? They would make a difference.
Sorry guys, the warranty is 03/31/08. No lowering kit stock suspension. I have ridden other EG's on test rides when I was looking for a bike. Those bikes were very smooth reguardless of one or two up. It is hard for me to believe that both shocks are malfunctioning. Just no give at all, feels like a ridged.I kept the gage on the fittingand bounced on the bike, air pressure goes upand takes a very long time to come down, but the bike dosen't move. Just no suspension movement. The only things I can think of are swing arm problems or shocks. I am going to make a service appointment mondayto have it looked at. I guess I will have to transfer the warranty first. I will let you know of the what they find.
