The dealer is offering to do a stage II 103 with se 255 cams for 1800.00 out the door.Ive been following the Head Quarters builds and Im really impressed with their numbers. But this is a great price (normally 2700.00)and my bike is already there for some other stuff.I told them to go for it and now Im second guessing that decision.HELP!!!!

Why don't ya give Lyn a shout? (LRK0) He has buds w/ SE 103's & wanted something better. Check & see if he feels good about the results.

Honestly, the SE stuff is "OK" & the HQ stuff is "Excellent". It really depends on what ya want.

All kidding & BS aside.... there is a HUGE difference.

If the stage II upgrade is done by a dealer in the first 90 days, that build is included in the 2 year warranty. My local dealer (Boswell's in Nashville) has a winter special 103" Stage II upgrade at a discount. I had it done and used SERT map 106 on my '08 Ultra. The bike has much better throttle response than a Stage I setup. HQ builds will produce more HP and TQ than a standard SE Stage II upgrade but you face warranty issues if you have an engine problem in the first 2 years. I personally want dealer mods done while my scooter is in the warranty period but the next guy may opt for the better performing HQ upgrade. My suggestion is to make up your mind, go for the one you choose and don't look back. Buyers remorse is going to happen either way you go if you let it work on your head.

That is a tough call as the price seems right. I assume you will be pleased with the results with the SE build since it will be better than stock. It all depends on what you are looking for. Personally I am going with the HQ build myself after a lot of feedback on here but also from a guy I spoke with at one of the local dealers. He even said that the SE parts will improve on the bike they won't get the maximum amount out of it. Also knowing my own personality it would eat me up wondering if I spent all of that money and for only a little bit more I could have done the "whole enchilada".
Then again I wasn't offered a price of $1800. My HQ build is around $2200 as I am doing the wrenching myself (which I prfere, it is like assemblying a model). Once the damn UPS man shows up I will be posting pictures of the parts as well as my performance impressions.

While I would love to have "THE UPS GIRL" show up I would accept Estelle Getty in a thong and chaps as long as she is holding the parts I am waiting for!

RKK I just saw you lived in TX or I would have offered to help you out with the build. I was going to try and be the "East Coast Phil"

I am estimating the time to complete the build about 6 hours +/- one hour.

philm is right - the difference is between ok and excellent.
i had a dealership major upgrade once when they had a winter special and basically the labor was "free" and the cost of the upgrade was slightly more than the cost of the parts. it was all i could afford at the time and it was just that - OK. i thought it was good, but it never performed as well as i had expected it to - no major seat of the pants feeling of sitting on a performance bike. i eventually had it redone with head-quarters parts and the difference was night and day - far superior. major increases in performance with the head-quarters package.

that being said up front, i do not want to make you second guess yourself if the trigger has been pulled already. i'm a performance junkie and was not satisfied with the se package. however, unless you want big numbers or the ability to go out and outrun all your buddies on the drag strip, you will be very pleased with the se packages. some of them can be very nice if the mechanic putting it together is performance oriented and you don't just get the standard harley packages. get the squish and the compression right, the right cam for that compression and the way you ride, perhaps get the heads mildly ported while they are off, etc - and you will have a nice bike. there are a lot of different roads to the same destination.

RKK I feel your pain. I originally ordered HQ cams only for my bike but had buyers remorese fearing for just a little more money I could go all of the way. Thankfully they are letting me send back the 500 cams when the full 103 kit gets here. Have you reviewed some of the dyno sheets from Latus HD? I am not sure if they have any for that build but wouldn't be surpised. Also one consideration for me is the group I usually ride with most of them have upgraded motors so the pace is pretty fast. One bike is a 124" while the other is 113".

Personally that is a great price and if they are guarantying the work I think the price is right by far! Post your decision and results.
