I sold my 97 softail to a friend that lives up by D.C. and he called this morning with a question. It seams to have been cold up there for a while now and today it hit 60 so he was going to go for a ride but there is condisation all over the primary and the bike won't start. Down here in TexasI have never had this problem nor doI winterize my bike is there somethingI can tell him he should do now and in the future?
If the evos have the crank sensor like the 88's I would check it for corosion...... If it is coroded I would clean it up and use some good electrical grease on it...
I live in oh. and always stored my 98 carbed fatboy in an un-heated garage, during the winter months i would some times turn the heater on to work in the garage, the bike always got condensation on it, never hurt in any way. But when i went to start it in the spring i would always choke the $hit out of it and turned the throttle several times before it would start. But it always fired up..
battery tender, fuel stablizer, don't go and start it once a week, once a month whatever, just leave it unless you are gonna ride it and have a good day. Come spring choke the mother and twist it a few times and go.
Living in central NH, we see lots of cold temps AND condensation when we have thawing temps.
I have never had this problem even though it can get very damp.
Winter here will always see minus 20 to plus 40.
cool beans !! glad that worked out for ya', I'm an hour from dc and felt compelled to find a solution for ya' to no avail.... merry x-mas brother and ride safe
