Default Attention 2006 Ultra Owners

Hey all.
I have a question hopefully someone with an 06 Ultra could give me an answer to. You all haven't let me down before, and I'm sure you won't let me down on this one.
My 06 Ultra is in storage, so I cant check this out myself.
I will be mounting a passenger grab rail off a 2005 Ultra I bought off of ebay. Mine came with the fender mounting bracket and 1/4-20 nuts.
When I asked the seller, of a grab rail for sale on ebay, if the mounting hardware bracket came with the grab rail, they told me
No. The 1/4-20 nuts and bracket are already under the seat.
Maybe the seller of the grab rail I bought, sent me a bracket I won't need it being there is already one under the seat.
I was wondering if any 2006 Ultra owner had pulled their seat off and noticed if the bracket was already there like the ebay seller said. This would be a great help to myself and any other person installing a grab rail on a 2006 Ultra.
Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone for their help.[sm=icon_rock.gif]

Mickey,
I hope you can do the install. We have a 1999 Ultra and the better half likes her grab bar. So when we took delivery of the 2006 Screamin Eagle Ultra we were suprised "no grab bar"! Well HD did away with the bar for all 2006 Ultra's, I pulled the seat on the '06 and didn't see how I could mount the bar. They installed a strap across the seat for the passanger as a replacement, now you have to pull the saddlebag to remove it and then the seat? You could remove the seat, rear wheel, drill the fender and mount the bar, but for some reasom the MOCO says the bar will not fit with rear speakers? Wish you luck. Dave

Mick,

If I understand you right, you bought a grab rail like the one that is no longer standard equipment on the '06 FLHT/C/U.

Yes? Then there is no "fender mounting bracket" required. There should be pre-tapped holes in the fender for this item to bolt directly to the fender.
At least that is the way it's always been until '06. However, I have not looked under the saddle of an '06 to see if the holes are still there.
Have a look and let us know.

If you look in the 2006 Accessory catalog, page 400, upper left corner, they sell a grab rail for the 2006 which lists it as being Original Equipment for 99-05 FLHT, FLHTC, and FLHTCU. The service rep at MOCO I talked to says it will work. I have to wait to get my Ultra out of winter storage to find out if it will work. I was hoping someone with an 06 Ultra could verify this.
A friend of mine has a 2005 Ultra Classic with Tour Pack speakers, same seat and the grab rail.
I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Sure wish Harley would have left well enough alone. They would have been better off leaving the grab rail on and selling that stupid strap as an optional kit for anyone that wanted it.
But then again................................that makes too much sense.

I am interested in what you can find out about this topic. That is the first thing the wife said when we looked at the bike when it came in and still brings it up. I don't remember seeing any brackets or holes in or on the fender to accomadate the handrails. Love to add them to the bike. In fact we had already purchased the handrail covers before the bike came in.

I installed a grabrail on my 06 Ultra, the hardware needed to mount it was under the seat. It installed just like the one I had on my 05 EG Classic. The reason they removed the grabrail is they mounted the tour-pak lower on the 06 bikes, this caused the rear speaker pods to hit the grabrail. All I had to do is move the tour-pak to the rear mounting position and once the grabrail was installed I had to tweek it a bit to get some clearance. It bends pretty easy so giving it a slight push down will gain you the clearance. If I did this right there should be a picture of it installed on my 06 Ultra.

Msocko3,

What does this bracket look like or where does it mount? Evidently I am missing something. Sure would like to get these on. Does it interfere with the saddlebag lid?

when i installed the battery tender, i had the seat off of my 06 EG Classic... there were 3 bolts sticking up through the rear fender that had nuts on them already.

looks like you could just take the nuts off, put the rail on, put the nuts back on and tighten 'em and go.

I got to bitch loudly about this one today, took the wife out for the inaugural spin...had to brake hard..and got mashed up against the fairing because she didn't have
an Oh #$%^! bar...first time I realized they weren't there.. guess I should stop riding it long enough to look it over..

Needless to say, I will be on Ebay after a bit...

I ordered them for my 06 Ultra. When I went to pick up the new bike they gave me a refund. They said they would not fit the 06. Wife really wanted them.
