Default Help on planning a long ride

I am planning to take about a 10 day to 2 week ride this spring and was wanting to ask all of your opinions of what all I should plan to pack in the tourpak and saddlebags to be prepared. Of course I know the basics, rainsuit, tire pressure gauge, leathers, first aid kit, maps etc.

I guess I am looking for the things that aren't as obvious from you guys past expierences on the road.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

Camping or motelling?

Flash light, extra quart of oil, compact tool kit, ...

A DOT approved helmet if you don't usually wear one as many states require this.

Hey Tripper,

Looks like we share the same good taste in owning Road Glides, mine is a 2005 in Black Cherry. I will be motelling, I have a flashlight, tools etc. on the bike all the time. And I wear my DOT helmet at all times whether it is the law or not.

Apprecaite the feed back,

I usually like to travel through the middle of nowhere so I include:

--Good, high quality tire repair kit
--Compass
--Cell Phone
--The best maps I can find
--Blanket

If I plan on staying in motels, I take as few clothes as possible (jeans, t-shirts, socks, etc.) as I can usually find a motel where I can do some laundry. This leaves more room for tools, emergency equipment, and outerwear.

Hi,

I did a shorter trip this summer, MA down to NC in two days, and back a week later in 1 day. 14 hours on the bike. Someone on this list suggested A. bicycle pants (you know the ones with the pad in the butt) and B. a product Anti-Monkey Butt. Don't know if it was the powder or not, but I was comfortable, no sweating rash etc... in the saddle for 14 hours. Nothing worse than riding with a sore butt ;-)

14 days is nothing. Bring old socks and unders, and toss them every day. Bring no T-shirts, and wear the ones you buy at the bars and dealerships you go to.

Although you may not be camping, here's the list I use to double check if I have all I need. If you'd pack everything on the list, btw, you'd need a really big trailer - LOL. The list is in MS Word format - hope you can open it. Click here>>>>Ted's Camping List
