Default 07 flht oil filter question
im going to do the 5000 mile service myself....looks like when i take the old filter off, im going to make a heck of an oilmess with the filter being fillwith oil ..am i?....

Do a search on this site, many have provided ideas on how to reduce the mess. I cut a half gallon plastic milk jug down to the point that it would slip under the filter while removing it....oil drips onto the plastic and out into my drain pan....didn't get a drop anywhere on the bike.

just hose it off the bike and lay something underneath it so it doesn't stain the garage floor.

Aluminum foil works great. Also, If you replace the filter with a K&N, it is way easier to change next time because it has a nut on the end like this . . .

I stab 2 hole in the oil filter at the top and bottom of it and let it drain into a oil jug left over from another change. If you only do 1 hole it will just drip. I use an icepick to punch the hole

I use the K&N filter......besides the looks, it is a better filter....
