I have an '07 Road Glide. Lately I've noticed that If my wife rides with me, I'm too far forward. I started paying more attention to where I sit when she's not riding. I realized I sit pretty much on the "Hump" area, too far back. I guess I need to start looking at after market seats. Curious, does anyone know of a stock seat from another model that would fit a Road Glide? I had an '03 Road King classic & did'nt have this problem.
Thanks.
Joe
Check out the HD catalog, (free at the dealer)in the touring seat section. They've got one for shorter and one for taller riders, effectively giving or taking an inch or so in the passenger area. Once you figure the one you want...go to ebay where there's seats aplenty bein traded for prices about half of MSRP at the Stealers. I found a stock '07 EG seat fer about $180 shipped...made the wife plenty happy with more cush for the tush.
This may help.. A member here did some sizing up on some seats... I'm 6'4" and I have used Sundowner Deep Bucket Seat & Corbin Dual Tour Seat - Both these seats will move you back and down a bit...
I had the same "problem" on my 2004 RG. I corrected it by putting a 2007 FLHX stock seat on it ($80). This seat put me in the same riding position without sitting on the hump area as the FLHX seat pushed me back a little. I did have to do something with the console after installing the 07 seat, because the front part of the seat is shorter than the Road Glide seat causing a small space between the console and seat. You have several choices to fill in the space. Harley sells a leather peice part # 52447-96 ugly in my opion, The drag book has a chrome extension peice $50 PART# DS720123 , or you can put on a FLHX console which is streched to fill in the space. I went with the FHLX console. Harley sells the kit for $189 you can get it cheaper online HD # 71288-03a. You can also try ebay for a FLHX console. Most of the ones on ebay do not come with the gasket or two different lenght bolts needed to change from a RG to SG set up. here are some pics
Even though Mustang has them online, they don't have the '08 one piece touring seats available yet. Suprises me that a seat company isn't prepared when a new model is released. Did h-d not tell them that the tabs would be different??
I would suggest if you dont already belong to a local HOG chapter try and go on a couple of rides with one. Look around at the different seats that some of the riders have. If you see one thatlooks like a possibility ask to try it out. Also a lot of riders will have two or three seats hanging in the garage that didnt work for them.
I sampled 3 or 4 different seats this way. Thiswill save you a lot money trying something and then finding out it is not the right one.
