Default Chrome and paint additions

So, as I've told you, I got a set of chrome fork lowers for Christmas, and I wanted to paint the inner fairing gloss red. I put the bike on the stand, and start ripping parts off. First the seat and battery, then outer fairing, signals and passing lights, then throttle and clutch lines, then wiring, making sure I mark each group as I go. Then removing each instrument, then inner fairing, brakes, wheel, fender, and fork's. I've got 5 hours into this job, and nothing is on yet.

Next up, painting the inner, replacing lines, and cables, doing the re and re on the fork lowers. Then cleaning and putting her back together.

Liz came in the garage when I was doing this and rather than flipping about the pile of parts everywhere, she asked if I wanted a drink. Said no, because I wanted to remember where all the wires go, but, still have to love her for not screaming about me ripping apart the bike.

So today it get's better! Sitting in the living room on the couch polishing the spokies on the front wheel while watching the idiot box.

When I rode the Wing she flipped when I washed the body panels in the dishwasher, but ever since it's been HD, I get away with murder. HD should advertise this stuff!

P.S. Tomorrow I have to do the prep on the beer box lights, and I figured I would use the dishwasher again. If I get away with this, I am selling this advertising idea to Willie.

Joe,

Sometimes is easier to get forgiveness than permission, I guess she'll let you know when you have gone too far.

I did the same thing about a year ago,,, the wife came home - her only comment was "do you know how that goes back together?" No problem "cept for that can full of extra important stuff" LOL... Actually, what I did was buy a second inner, had it painted THEN removed it all and replaced the same weekend, along with Wild1's bars.... Had I left it for a few days,,, Not sure if I would have remembered it all... Save the Beer for After...

I'm starting mine this weekend, and I won't be getting any flack from Kim, but then I hadn't even thought abought bringing the wheels in from the shop to polish in the livingroom! The dishwasher, that's a whole nuther thing.
Good luck with reassembly Joe, I'm real stressed about putting it all back together and not scratching the new paint.
I'm putting new chrome handlebars and controls, painting the inner fairing and changing the air temp guage to oil temp.
This forum has given me a lot of confidence. Hopefully I won't screw it up too badly.

Joe,

Give M&M Cycle a try HD makes the painted inner fairing and the caps if your bike does not have a custom paint job out side of HD. M&M Cycle can get these items pretty cheap. Both items 432.50 much cheaper then most paint shops I went to. HD what's $700 for both.

I'm painting them myself. About $100.00 total in supplies. I have a paint booth and guns, so no cost there. I'm also painting the black plastic light surround that is on the rear luggage (beer box)

I have been taking pictures, and will post the before during and after pictures when she is done.
