Default RE: XM Radio. Substitutes???

Here is what i have found out. I went to a high end radio shop today to have an iPod integration module installed in my 04 Chevy. Everyone else told me that this could not be done with a Bose Radio,CD changer, and a Sirius receiver on the factory radio. BS, any body want to hear me jam now with out a cruddy FM tuner. There is a company out these that makes these integration modules for data bus radios, they are calledPeripheral Electronics, www.peripheralelectronics.com. They make these modules for GM and other vehiclesdata buses soyou can add these devices and still retain factory radio and all bells and whistles.

This guy that owns this store is very knowledgable, he said that even if a plug and play unit is not available, he can make a cross connect plug for this purpose. He just needs the bike for a couple of hours to make it work. He said max with parts and labor it would be around 200.00.

I am goign to call Peripheral Electronics tomorrow. I will let you know what they say........\

Well put the Coronas on my tab. I feel your pain Hoz...Sirius isnt the only company that hires dumbasses to work the phone lines, Harley, AT&T, Sprint, Dodge, Sears, Dell etc......all pull from the same pool of dumbasses. AND THEN if they dont feel like the people they are getting are stupid enough......They ship your call to India wher some red dot hoochie that cant speak english and sure as hell cant understand it gets to try and solve your problem.
I apprceciate the time you have spent on this and I hope we can get it worked out.
I'm not giving up hope yet.
If you get the diagrams, I have a friend who makes plugs for stuff like this and can probably hook us up for a reasonable price if that is all we need is a splice cable to make this work.

Thanks again
You guys don't owe me anything! I was hoping you all had it worked out, I've been trying for a while to figure out a way to do it too. But I will argue with mcline about the Aux input There is no difference in going into the front of the radio[aux] as opposed to going into the rear [harness]. When you plug the jack in the headphone jack you are getting the same quaility sound as you would with headphones. When you plug into the Aux input the radio automaticly switches to Aux and plays the exact same way as the HD XM does. The xm receiver going into the front is the same as HD sells going into the back. You just can't use the functions built into the radio to control it.

Ok...i love a good debate but I really dont want to change the subject of this thread.
Trock, I think I am not being clear. You are correct, if you take (say an ipod) and plug it into the front AUX jack you will get just as good of a sound as if you have it wired into a harness in theback. My point is this: The quality of sound you get from a portable unit (pic 1)does not have quality of a remote tuner (pic 2). Regardless of how you have the portable connected.

It takes an $85 wiring harness kit for the dealer to install the $499.99 HD XM satelite radio kit for the 2008 Ultra.

My dealer forgot to order the harness so when I picked up my 08 Ultra in back in November I have to come back and have them finish the install at the 1000 mile service. They told me it was $50as wellbut the HD part 70164-06 says its $85.95.

I rode an 04 Ultra for 30,000 miiles with the XM tuner velcro'd to my fairing. I got so tired of taking it off and putting it back on when I made stops. I was very Happy to pay the 500.00 to Harley dealer when I bought my 07 Ultra. I think it's the best money I spent on my bike.....except for the IDS. I love being able to switch back and forth and not have all that crap on my fairing. All I listen to is XM radio. I bought a Zumo 550 that has Blue tooth built in, trouble is, I hae to pay about 500 for a Bluetooth module for my radio in order to hear the GPS tell me directions. I wish someone would come up with a simple solution for this.....Bldr

I am in for this cable also, I think he could make allot of sales right here on this site.
I have a portable Sirrius unit thatI play thru FM and it sucks, I love my Sirrius and really want to play it thru the head unit.
If I am going to pay Harley $500, I would get a new head unit thru Biketronics with the cable to use your hand controls and call it a day, allot cheaper
