no, I have one(UC w/lowers)for the Texas heat in summer but it only cools when riding. Unless you're in excessive heat often as we are here in the great State of Texas there's no need from what I hear from other posters here.
Just puchased a '90 Roadking w/Ultima 127, live in Wisc. Ultima recomends oil cooler, considering I live in a cooler climate do you think it is a necessity and does bringing the oil temp down 30 degree's pose any adverse effect on performance or engine, may seem like a dumb ? but.
Depends on where your oil temps are now. For me, my oil temps were always around 240-260........a bit too high for my liking. Highest it ever got was in traffic in Laconia last year...........278.
Now with the oil cooler, the temps are much better. And the oil only flows thru the cooler when it gets above 180, it has a built in thermostat to regulate it.
Thank you mainultraclssic and masterblaster. Just got back from a ride here in the pacific northwest and have the oil draining. Will install oil coller right after the football game is over if I have th 7/16 allan wrench, if not will have to pick one up after work tomorrow. Thank's again, greatlly appreciated.
I have the HD Oil Cooler installed on my 08 Ultra Classic and recorded 255 on Saturday. It was about 82 outside and most of it was highway driving (no idling in traffic...no traffic!!!). I'm also using Syn3. If it got this hot is January, what am I going to do in July? It gets pretty hot here in Havana in July. What is too hot for this bike? I'm thinking of TMAX or PowerCommander with slip-ons and a larger air filter...leaning towards TMAX because I don't plan on doing many more upgrades, I just wish TMAX had a better expected release date than Spring 08. At least the PC is ready for the 08s. I live in Cuba and don't get out much, but I am going to Daytona in March where I plan on buying the parts. (FYI...I'm Canadian living here for at least another year and a half, so I can't get dealer upgrades...Stage 1, etc.) Does anyone know if I can just take the ECM with me to Daytona and have upgrades done without the bike???
Havan Cuba? get some floats and a propeller and get the heck outta there and come join the rest of the island here in Miami. J/K, try putting some Mobil 1 or Amsoil in there. I have the Tmax and it did help but the syn helped more not the HD syn though.
The oil cooler is great for bringing the temps down 20 degs but I think you are missing the other piece. "STAGE 1" Most everyone on this thread has already do the stage 1 which includes a new fuel management system that also cools the bike down by adding fuel. The Stage 1 and oil cooler together on a 07 or 08 will get you into the 215 to 220 range on 95deg days. If your just running down the HWY hard I don't want to see temps over 225 because if you get into some stop and go on the same drive you know you will see temps in the 250 range. Before the cooler when I only had the stage 1 I would see temps in the 245 range after 1 hour on the hwy at 80 and 85 in 95deg heat. Now the same run shows temps in the 225 range.
Yes. The auto/motorcycle standard is 10mm. I had to order that 7/16 hex from Sears on line. 15.00 dollars.
Did you take note the chrome cover has a Tiawan sticker on it?
Oh well it works the cooler that is!
I didnt have the Allen Wrench for the Oil Cooler Adapter that attaches to the oil inlet/outlet. So I took a Bolt with the correct hex head size that fit. Put two Nuts on it and jambed them tight on the bolt. Then used a socket and extension to install it and torque it to specs.
Worked for me
