Buy the farm and a used bike, the bike will impress the amish girls.

Buy the land, like every one else says.Look for a good low milage evo dresser, seems to be plenty around, for less than half what the 08 ULTRA will cost.Gettin the farm right is gonna take a lot of work= not much time for ridin. An evo will take you down the road as good as anything and better than most. You can have both, just think it through.

Buy the land and pick up a used bike I JUST bought a 97 ultra with 9500 mi. for $9750. It will need tires this spring. Follow your dreams and ride an evo. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Well ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it looks like I am going to get part of the farm and the bike, just trying to work out the details. So far it's cash for the bike with a downpayment for some of the pasture land, which is enough to graze cattle, and land contract for the rest at a low interest rate. He didn't offer me the prime land yet so I'm holding out for that and letting the Amish take what I won't use and it still keeps them away from where I want to build the now smaller home due to finance.

I do have to pay taxes on my income here just not on everything. I also pay a buttload of property taxes so I hope to get some ofthat back. Don't get me on the RANT of my income being taxed that I bought my land with that was taxed at purchase that I pay yearly taxes on and ............Did I mention theschool taxand I don't have children? or the ....................

OK, here goes. Been in Iraq over 3 years now and saved enough to build a house on my paid for land and pay cash for a 08 Ultra. I'll be debt free except for utilities.

I was just informed my 78 year old parents that they need to sell their farm due to dire straights, my inheritance, that borders my land andthe reason I went out of my way to purchase my land and was planning on starting a farm. I offered to help them out monthly but Pa says no he is going to sell to the Amish which we all despise in the area. That would mean I will be surrounded by Amish and not be able to farm but have to put up with their animals and wild dogs.

The only way to keep this Land in the family is for me to buy them out with everthing I have and live in some small garage building and of course forget about owning the Ultra.

Should I build the house, buy the bike, and let the farm go.........
OR buy the farm........

I need a drink
Pardon me for saying that this is a no-brainer ............. opportunity only knocks a few times in a person's life ..................your land sounds like an investment ........... it will only appreciate in value .......... BUY THE LAND .... if you are debt free and notmarried BUY THE LAND +10! Regards.

Where do you live? Just curious.

We have Amish in the area. Some goodl, some not so good. Kind of like everyone else, I guess.

For the most part, my dealings with them have been good. Smelly, but good! ;-)

62trvler-
Sounds like you've got a plan. As others have said, (assuming you'll be working when you return) it "pays" to have a mortgage to offset your taxes, which can put you in a lower tax bracket etc etc. If you've got that much $$ it may be worth it to visit a financial advisor to get things right the first time if you don't already have one.

My girl-friends best-friend is a residential architect down here in Maryland and she designed my GF's house. I'd suggest/recommend that you have someone similar design a house for you that can be built in two stages with the intent to add-on and create your end-goal dream house. My GF did this (before me) and her plans are how/where/etc to add on a garage/etc at a later date. It may cost you a little up front for better plans but you'll save much more in the long run if your build plans are designed this way ... aside from which your second stage will flow concurrently w/ the original build. It seemed brilliant to me when I started going over the builders blue-prints. <insert 'shoulda had a v8 smiley here>

Worth every penny you paid,
Robert

PS. ditto what was said about being single ... if so, buy all your toys now. And I completely agree about the dirt bike/track ... thats some fun chit.

welcome back and THANK YOU!!![sm=americanasmiley.gif]

sounds like you made a smart decision. the land will be a better investment than a bike would be. plus keeping the land in your family is important. and watch out for those amish girls...heard some of them can be ANIMALS!!!
