Default transmission oil

I used to use Syn 3 in my tranny until a good mechanic suggested I use a good transmission oil. He said syn 3 is too thin. After the change I agree my tranny shifts much better and quieter.

What do you think of useing syn 3 in the tranny?

I tried it once -- never again. I went back to H-D semi-snythetic trans. oil. Next time I'm going with Redline Shockproof.

Online site to buy it:

If you go to the Oil sections of this forum, you will find a TON of discussion on this. Personally, I went with Mobil 1 75W90 synthetic in my trans for a couple of reasons. Full synthetic and fairly easy to get at most auto parts stores. I have only rode it once since I have changed it, but I have already noticed a difference in the way the tranny shifts. More click and less clunk. Just my .02

Both good stuff. I went with the Redline simply because it was avaialable. Noticeable difference in shifting.

I tried the Syn-3 at the suggestion of my dealer in my crankcase, tranny and primary, when I had my bike in for the 1000 mile service. It took about 30 miles to realize I was not happy with the results. Went back to the dealer the next day and replaced the syn-3 with HD's semi-synthetic tranny oil. Shifting is now much smoother and a lot less (Clunk) noisy than it was with the Syn-3. Still running the Syn-3 in the crankcase and primary and am happy with that...

I went from Syn3 to Formula +. Way better. More click than clunk. This time I went to M1 75W90. 400 miles so far and I like it. The trans seems to be even smoother when shifting. If I use a synthetic it will be M1. For all others HD Formula + is a great choice.

I too tried it and didn't like it. I now use Amsoil 75-90, made a world of differance.
