H-D S-100 cleaner. Let it soak on the rims for a good 30 min. (if real crappy) then hose off very well until squeeky clean. I use a round wheel brush also.
Confucious says, Clean regularly (especially the rear wheel) and you'll stay ahead of the potential pitting and you won't have to scrub so hard....
About every third wash, I throw the bike on the lift, wet the wheels, spray them with S100 and take a wet sponge and give them a scrub down. Hose off and dry. Still looking nice and clean.
Invest in a decent spoke brush. I've got a Mirage at the car parts store that's conical with soft nylon bristles. It works great with No-7 Car Wash or whatever - no scratches and no bloody knuckles.
Buy takeoffs from Ebay and then wax them every time you wash them, and they won't pit. It's in your owner's manual! The spinning wheels with moisture and dirt are creating electrolysis, thereby the corrosion. It's the only reason my 8-year-old mags have no corrosion. Better yet, ditch the mags and get a nice set of chrome ones from this forum's sponsors! Hold on, I'm going inside to ask my wife about a new set of wheels...[&:]
