You can set the throttle position with no worries. When and if you need to update the firmware, that is when you should use the 9 volt battery and NOT the ignition switch to power up. I killed my PCIII that way and had to send it back to Dynojet for repairs. Took a week to get it back.

My suggestion when working with the PCIII is to always read the directions carefully - TWICE before doing anything.

There are a couple things that bug me about the PCIII and that is why I recently bought a SERT. I have an appointment mext week to have my bike dyno tuned. The PCIII will be retired for now.
Things I dislike . . .
1. It's "tacked on" to the bike with wire ties
2. It's a damn hard fit under that side cover
3. The delayed starting issue. (do a search if you haven't heard about it.)
4. Canned maps
5. How do you know what you're really doing without a dyno tune???
6. Decel popping and playing with numbers to eliminate it. It's all really just a guess.

Like I said, I've been happy although now I see that without a dyno tune, I'm just running a map that is from a bike similar to mine that was dynoed. I bought the PCIII to avoid the expense of a dyno tune. IMO, I was fooling myself. So, off to Latus I go . . . next week.

ok i am goint to ask a noob question but since I am a first time harley owner im still scared of doing somthing wrong and get my warrenty voided.

I own a 07 ultra classic and i want to do a stage one on my bike adding a PCIII, Rush slipons, K&N filter, ive been reading by yalls post that yall are ordering the parts and installing them youselves. would the harley dealership frown on you when you brought your bike in for the 5000 mile service and saw the new additions that the Harley dealership did not put on the bike and try to mess with your warrenty since you did the work yourself?

Thanks

On an 08 with Throttle by wire, Jamies instructions when I spoke to him last week on the unit I was having issues withwas NOT to re adjust the throttle positions . You may want to double check with him but he indicated that with the electronic set up, it is not necessary. I installed mine on a SG with ABS and took a couple of pix. I'll post them sometime later today.

Wow, that would be a new twist. I'd call Dynojet to confirm as well. That's a plus for 08 owners if true.

all the above is good advice, but do the throttle position set no matter what, other wise your fuel table will be off throughout the rpm range.. You can also check your "rev extender (for it to go to 6200rpm) by "alt ctrl F", then check the box. I requested the extender, but when I checked, the box was not "checked", so I"checked" it. (I guess that means "enabled")

There is a law that states before they can deny your warranty, they have to prove that your modification caused the failure. Everybody personalizes their HDs, dealers are used to it.

PC says to warm up your 08 before checking the throttle.

Installed mine about two weeks ago, throttle set is automatic on the 08's ,no need to adjust when installed.

I like my PCIII I had decel popping and just adjusted the idle mix and it seemed to clear it. I like the fact that I can play around with the tune as any canned map is not going to work well unless the map is designed to account for variables like height above or below sea level etc.

Why do you say not to start the bike.
I opened the PC software, connected to the PCIII and then started the bike.
Everything worked great, checked the throttle position and everything seemed to be perfect, no adjustments were needed.

Did I do something wrong?
No, it's just that performing the TP settings with the 9V and igntion on is an easier method. Most people start the bike and go through the settings, but for me it resulted in never quite getting 100% set correctly. The manual gives both as methods, but the non-running method for me was the best.

Been there, done that. I killed mine for about 20 min., but persistent retries to upgrade the firmware finally succeeded. For a while there I really did think I would have to return mine for service. Lesson learned, and fortunately no damange done.

Dislikes:
1. It's "tacked on" to the bike with wire ties
Wire-ties are all over your bike and they work well. Besides, nobody sees them anyway.

2. It's a damn hard fit under that side cover
Mine fits like a glove, never a problem.

3. The delayed starting issue. (do a search if you haven't heard about it.)
Simple fix: Start the bike before the "check engine" light goes out. IOW, start immediately after turning on the ignition and you will have no delays.

4. Canned maps
Work fine when created properly.

5. How do you know what you're really doing without a dyno tune???
All three of Fuel Moto's maps I've tried have worked very well. If it was optimized at Fuel Moto, it is optimized here too, or so close most would never notice the difference. I won't be spending $300 for a dyno tune to gain a few 10th's of a HP.

6. Decel popping and playing with numbers to eliminate it. It's all really just a guess.
Never had any popping here. Never knew what the issue was for others, although it appears to be a problem for some. This isn't unique to the PCIII, as the complaints come from those who've installed SERT and T'Max, too.
