I like the tent gig, if i can find a camp spot away from everyone by a river or a fast moving stream, im not much on the people thing, call me a hermit or what you will, lol. its just me most of the time on the bike so i got all kinds of room to pack camp gear. when i stop i usually set up camp then ride to the store and get camp food, like stuff to make hot dogs or what not. most of the stae parks iv been to also have showers, so ruffing it for me aint that bad. I do the hotel motel thing time to time also but i enjoy the outdoors, also
Used to ride from Denver to Fl every year. On the road at 5 get 400 or so miles down the road and get a motel in the afternoon. Take my advise and make reservations. Pulled into a motel in Kans in 94 ( lot was empty) and asked if they had any rooms. They looked at me and said no, told them I was glad I had made a reservation then. Next morning we were in having breakfast. Got up to hit the head at the same time an old lady did. Had to wait for her to come out of the mens room. She was so interested in me she went into the wrong room. Her husband came up and said the next week he would be getting her new glasses. I hope he did!
I do both I carry a tent and depending on the weather I will use it or stay in a motel. The fire is a great relaxation. If I am tired and it is is late a motel. I just like the option.
It depends. When I am with my wife it is motels, when I am with myself it is tent, some of my riding pals like tents some like motels so depends on who i riding with. I can tent for near free and still don't have to cook my meals over a campfire. I do like drinking a beer around the fire tho. If I am on a long trip I like to catch a motel every 4 or 5 days. It also depends on where I am going. Sturgis is good tenting because you set the tent up and have a base camp. So my answer is both.
