We prefer nothing less than a quaint, antiquely New England Bed and Breakfast, a warm fireplace, a fine glass of wine, Bing on the Victrola, tea and crumpets in the morning, thick comforters and down pillows... ahh
and, as for the bumpity bumping and groiny groaning, I have no idea to what you refer!
I can get a hotel/motel anytime, but a good campsite with cool people around to share a beer with is a lot mor socialable. I like meeting people and do so everytime I camp. Tent!
We go to about 16 rallies a year with friends. We love to camp out, but i've found that people just dont respect the noise issue camping. Its going to be noisey until 1AM so take some ear plugs. We do both motels and camping. I like the ruffing it experience. If I wanted luxury package, I would get a toy hauler.
Day to day type travel I'll do motels. Big events like Daytona I'll take motel on the trip to and from and a campsite for $25 a night (includes hot clean showers) over a $200 fleabag hotel. Leaves me with a lot more beer money and no itching.
When I'm riding with buddies it's a tent, sleeping bag and a fire and a couple of beers. We've found some great campgrounds with hot showers and swimming pools. After a long ride, setting up camp helps strech the muscles enough to enjoy a ride into town for a good meal.if the tent's wet when we pack up, I hang it over the bike to dry during breakfast.
I love to camp from my bike. I can load 6 days worth of food (not including lunches) and all my gear on my Ultra. I LIVE for the summer trips I take on my bike. I can attest that there are hardly any riders, Harley owners or otherwise, who camp. I ride past motel after motel with bikes in the parking lot. In the camp sites I sit by the fire and drink beer, sometimes make friends with other campers.
I guess I don't get the adventure in riding from motel to motel, that is unless the weather is really really nasty. Gotta 29' motorhome that gets 8.5 mpg andcost an arm an a leg to go anywhere (old lady's idea).Tent, sleeping bag, fishing rodand 35+ mpgon a bike = a hell of lot more fun and a betterride. Ican get beer and food just about anywhere. Now if only I can figure out how to install a crapper on an Ultra, I'd be in HOG heaven.
