Is it me or what? I have adjusted my chain several times with the bike on it's jiffy stand. The inspection window is at least 2-3 above the height of the fluid. Maybe you will get a few drops if the bike was used prior, but on a cold engine your not gonna get any unless you over filled your primary.
I just adjusted my primary chain yesterday at 9600 miles. The last time it was checked was at 1000 by the stealer and obviously they OVERFILLED IT! What I think happened was they just didn't let it fully drain before they added a new quart. I put a pan under the bike to catch it all but when I was all done I was pouring the old fluid back in to a quart container and I had about a half a quart too much !! The maintenance manual warns "Do not overfill the primary chaincase with lubricant. Overfilling can cause rough clutch engagement, incomplete disengagement, clutch drag and/ or difficulty in finding neutral at engine idle."
Now it operates like it should and everything is as smooth as silk. I put HD Formula + in and used a 2x4 to prop up the jiffy stand and it didn't overflow a drop. Kudos to you Steveh326 for doing your own maintenance. I keep running across things like this on my bike that the stealer should have done right but find out they were sloppy in their process. I decided miles ago to do as much of my own maintenance as I possibly can for this very reason.
