leather jacket??
The only leather protection I would wear is Langlitz. I know that you are getting alot of responses but anyone that tells you anything other then Langlitz simply has never had a Langlitz on and/or don't know what road rash is or it's damaging effects on human tissue. Its not their fault, they just don't have the input necessary to give you a logical answer.
Without huge brass furniture grade zippers, your jacket won't stay with you long if you're down and sliding. Anything with nylon zippers or velcro don't belong on a bike. Small brass zippers are not up to the task either.
Those thin raggy waist belts that are sold on most other jackets succumb to road rash fast and leave you with your protection bunched up around your neck and head if sliding feet first. Langlitz waist belts remind me of my Granpa's thick razor sharpening belt he had at his barber shop. My belt is from 1969 and you still can't fold it in half.
Most other jackets are not extended on the lower back area to provide cover from wind and rain.
Ultimately, you have to decide what the mission of the jacket is. If you're looking to protect yourself and your family's welfare, you now know the answer. If however, you just want to look cool, go buy a cheap jacket like Fox Creek or Vanson or H.D.
BTW I consider the the CHP jacket made by San Diego leather that has been mentioned as second best and closest anyone has come to copying a Langlitz. I wouldn't trade a Langlitz for 5 of those.
I don't have a dog in this race and I am not affiliated with Langlitz in anyway. I have more leather then I'll ever need the rest of my life with 2 pairs of Langlitz pants ('77 and '02 models) and a '69 Columbia.
Good Luck
Really.
I and the wife have tops and bottoms in Goat skin. Custom made, custom fit that you buy once.
Specifically I have the Padded Columbia and Padded Cascade with cossack collar.
Also the most time tested funtional jacket for all weather.
Expensive as I have mentioned is relative. These jacket appretiate and hold their value and you only buy there stuff once it is that good. Also if you do go down they willrepair their leathers.
Also a great family owned American company.
Not affiliated just a very happy customer.
I feel that my current 160.00 jacket will work just fine to protect me from the the road rash, should I ever need it and when I am done and the jacket is ripped to shreads as some seem to think it will be since it is not a 1 thousand dollar jacket I will simply buy another and still have spent 780.00 less.
I have to wonder how many of you who spent 1k on your jacket have spent 500 on a top of the line full face helmet?
