leather jacket??
I am one of those that spent close to 1K on a Langlits and I can well understand your perspective. I probably would have the same perspective if I had not actually been to the shop where they make them and had explained to me the details that goes into a "motorcycle" jacket and seen the difference in quality and custom fit between my $180leathers and the Langlits. There is no question that the Langlitz will provide a superior level of protection than my $180. But, i do understand that paying so much for a jacket does seem crazy butI did buy a Harley which is in the same price category butI can not claim that it is the same quality category. do not get me wrong, I love my Harley, but I do not see it asthe highest quality of craftsmenship as some other motorcycles.

I checked the langlitz site and I sort of like one style of jacket. Sort of like and 1k bucks just dont go to geather for me.
I feel that my current 160.00 jacket will work just fine to protect me from the the road rash, should I ever need it and when I am done and the jacket is ripped to shreads as some seem to think it will be since it is not a 1 thousand dollar jacket I will simply buy another and still have spent 780.00 less.
I have to wonder how many of you who spent 1k on your jacket have spent 500 on a top of the line full face helmet?

Langlitz is the best motorcycle leather money can buy. Handmade in a small shop by folks that have doing it for a very long time. I've had a Joe Rocket for many years and it has been great. I will be getting a Langlitz by the end of summer.

Ordered one for my wife in late 2001 and it took 6 months.
Been thru one wreck in my Langlitz, it saved my hide with just a couple minor
cuts to the arm from flying glass.
dxt7339 Sorry but, all you have truly said is that you visited the showroom and the sales person did a good job of selling ou on why you should spend 1k on a jacket.
I dont fault you, if you can afford it and you truly believe it will out perform any other lessor cost jacket then cool enjoy it.

The guy that started this thread was asking where a good place to buy and what do we prefer.
He is asking for opinions in his thread nothin else.
For those of you that feel it necessary to hijack this thread and put forth an argument in an attempt to justify buying inferior gear, start a new thread and argue away.

my first leather was Interstate. Traditional style jacket with zip out liner was $25 and basic chaps were $15 on a winter clearance day at Rural King. Leather was durable, but low quality. Pretty stiff and looks like it has been out in the weather for the last 50 years, but very warm and functional.
The zipper broke on the chaps the second year I had them and they were very uncomfortable from the start. I only wore them when it was below 50 because they weren't worth the hassle on a day any warmer than that.
I bought a pair of harley chaps last year. The extra comfort and ease of putting them on and off is worth the difference........... Still wearing my old jacket. Looking for just what I want to upgrade. Thanks for all the great links on here. My choices are better now.

TXPOPEYE, So, let me see if i understand your point. It is impossible to gain any more insight and information in a product by going to the factory and talking to the designers and builders and see the quality of their raw material and assembly and understand why the do things the way they do it? Is that what you are saying???? I would have a difference in opinion. if I could make all my costly purchases in this manner I would.
Perhaps that is all I have "said" for you, but if you understood more about who I am you would know that I do not let go of 1K for a jacket becauseI was "sold" by a salesman. I have been thrown out of car dealerships by the sales managerwhen negotiating price for an automobile becauseI did not buy into the BS. Iam an engineer and I am am very capable of analyzing design and details. I do this every day. I had the opportunity to actually comparethe design differences and quality of materials and craftsmenshipbetween the Langlitz and my $180 jacket.
Yes, it is aVERY expensive jacket. And for most, it is unreasonable to pay. But, you will not find a jacket anywhere at thesame level of design and quality at any price and that is my point. All of us on this forum have bought aHarley at a VERY expensive price and as an engineer, I would say much more that it is worth from and objective point of view. So, the discussion about cost is not a very good counter point when we have all paid too much for a motorcycle.

Sorry bro I didn’t mean to upset you. As I said if you believe that that jacket is that much better and can afford to pay 2 to 8x what you would for a jacket from another vendor then cool congrats on your jacket. My point was that unless you visited all the other manufactures you are basing your decision on the sales pitch you received at that location. Tell me does your jacket include any CE rated body armor in the shoulders, spine and elbows? How about Reflective stripes for increased night time visibility? You can purchase 1.4mm leather, CE rated jackets with reflective stripes for less then 500.00 Of course they will look like something a ricer would wear but they are competition grade jackets with additional safety features that yours does not have.
It is interesting that you make a point of telling me your qualifications as an engineer how capable of analyzing design and details you are then you admit that despite this skill you still spent too much for an inferior product, why? I can only assume it is because you bought into the hype and sales pitch. As for me, this is not the case I purchased my 08 Road Glide for less then MSRP and I don’t mean drop the price below MSRP then add on all the dealer cost and come up with over MSRP I mean the out the door price was 17k so the sales price for my bike made it only 1k over the Yamaha and Honda I was looking at, given the resale value of the HD and the fact that neither of the other bikes came with a 6 gal tank a 6 speed tranny a stereo/CD player and cruise control I came out ahead of the game. But again this is silly you are happy with the jacket you purchased and that’s all that matters. With any luck none of us will ever have to find out just how safe our jacket is. I am still wondering how many of you safety conscious folks are riding around with your high priced jacket have spent just as much on a full face helmet.
