TXPOPEYE, So, let me see if i understand your point. It is impossible to gain any more insight and information in a product by going to the factory and talking to the designers and builders and see the quality of their raw material and assembly and understand why the do things the way they do it? Is that what you are saying???? I would have a difference in opinion. if I could make all my costly purchases in this manner I would.

Perhaps that is all I have "said" for you, but if you understood more about who I am you would know that I do not let go of 1K for a jacket becauseI was "sold" by a salesman. I have been thrown out of car dealerships by the sales managerwhen negotiating price for an automobile becauseI did not buy into the BS. Iam an engineer and I am am very capable of analyzing design and details. I do this every day. I had the opportunity to actually comparethe design differences and quality of materials and craftsmenshipbetween the Langlitz and my $180 jacket.

Yes, it is aVERY expensive jacket. And for most, it is unreasonable to pay. But, you will not find a jacket anywhere at thesame level of design and quality at any price and that is my point. All of us on this forum have bought aHarley at a VERY expensive price and as an engineer, I would say much more that it is worth from and objective point of view. So, the discussion about cost is not a very good counter point when we have all paid too much for a motorcycle.

ORIGINAL: TXPOPEYE

dxt7339 Sorry but, all you have truly said is that you visited the showroom and the sales person did a good job of selling ou on why you should spend 1k on a jacket.

I dont fault you, if you can afford it and you truly believe it will out perform any other lessor cost jacket then cool enjoy it.

dxt7339
That is a very subjective statement coming from an engineer. One would assume that you have visited and inspectedevery leather jacket manufacturer.

TXPOPEYE

Well I don't which way this post is going.

Relative to your question about the head gear, I really did not care about the price . I bought the best for the application AraiQuantum both for my wife and myself.

But lets getback to the leathers question.

Congrads to your negotiating skills.

But lets get back to the leathers question.

I don't know if you have ever spoken to the people at Lanlitz. But I honestly don't ever remember speaking to a high pressure salesperson there. I do remember speaking with the one of the owners of the shop that was very concerned that I purchase what I wanted. I do remember speaking with owner in depth relative to purchasing a piece of equipment that was funtional. I do remember the owner and the person that made my wife jacket verifying dimensions for proper fitment. I do remember being advised by people at the shop that where bikers themselves. Incidentaly the founder of the company was a one leggedmotorcycle racer.I can tell this if you do go down, if you send your leathers back to shop they will repair them. I do remember that since there is a time lapse involved from the time you purchase your jacket, there is more than a enough time for a cool down period.

And just in case you ask I also spent over $400.00 on a pair of West Coast Shoe firestorm boots.

Ok now lets get back the original questions. Langlitz is a great shop to buy quality leathers for what I feel is fair cost in relation to the quality and choices they offer. They are a great choice if you do not want to be a walking bill board. They are great honest people to do business with. But I will say out of the all the jackets I have worn I have never been asked by so manypeople about the manufacturer. That includes most of the Midwest, South, China and Italy.

Now last statement get past the view of being a "high priced jacket" and you will understand the quality merits. No matter what you say form here forward you get what you pay for.

Again not affiliated just a very satisfied customer.

I checked the langlitz site and I sort of like one style of jacket. Sort of like and 1k bucks just dont go to geather for me.
I feel that my current 160.00 jacket will work just fine to protect me from the the road rash, should I ever need it and when I am done and the jacket is ripped to shreads as some seem to think it will be since it is not a 1 thousand dollar jacket I will simply buy another and still have spent 780.00 less.

I have to wonder how many of you who spent 1k on your jacket have spent 500 on a top of the line full face helmet?
My you're good with numbers and they certainly seem to take priority with you (except when you attempt to confuse the issue (opinions on leather jackets, remember?) with helmut costs??? so, try these numbers on.

I want to say that my Langlitz cost 189.00 in '69 (or was it 229.00? or 169.00?) today I see the same jacket circa late 70s going for 1450.00. I also see them go for 2000.00 in Japan. Personally people have asked me time and again to "name my price". I won't because its my jacket. What do you suppose that pile of $160 jackets is gonna be worth in 40 yrs. My guess is that you'd have to dig through 30 years of garbage at a landfill to find any of em.

In keeping your line of reasoning, my guess is that you own a moped and when that wears out, you'll simply buy another moped and have money left over in contrast to the purchase price of a harley. Or, if being hoisted aloft you'd just use shoe strings rather then spend money on the best fall arrest gear available.

BTW its my understanding that Langlitz keeps a file on it's garments and a numbering system for their customers. If a mismatched number/customer comes through, the original owner is notified. I wonder if any of these manufacturers that attempt to copy Langlitz's design, attempt to copy their customer service.

In closing, I'd like to remind you that I was replying to bcollida in response to his question on opinions on jackets.

bcollida, I am sorry that I participated in the hijacking of your thread.

Ultimately, you have to decide what the mission of the jacket is. If you're looking to protect yourself and your family's welfare, you now know the answer. If however, you just want to look cool, go buy a cheap jacket like Fox Creek or Vanson or H.D.
Not knocking Langlitz, I know thier products are top notch...but to say that Fox Creek Leathers are cheap is just plain BS. There are many stories on the internet how Fox Creek leathers saved ppl's hide. Not only that but thier product is top notch and have many, many satisfied custormers. Dunno how many here can afford a $1k+ leather jacket, but for those of us who can't Fox Creek Leather is the way to go.

BTW..I am in no way affiliated with Fox Creek Leather..just a very satisfied customer of thier "CHEAP JACKETS"
Pretty good judge of "plain B.S" are ya Raxus? How about we cruise on over to FC's website and click on mens, then click on "classic 1" then under the brief discription it says "more". click on more, and read what the owner said he was doing in 1953 at age 7. He says he was asking for a classic one. Now, click on home and then click "about us". It seems that the owner didn't start FC until 1970. Now that causes me to ask myself "Is he lying about wanting a classic 1 in 1953" or is he lying about starting the company in 1970. Either way you want it, he is a liar. Would you have any confidence in my word or my products if I gave you a story about riding a Harley in 1886? I didn't think so.

I don't know about you but I don't do business with deceptive advertisers. Besides that, I don't believe those zippers are strong enough to be attached to a motorcycle jacket. But above all, his credibility is in the toilet and he would never sell me anything even if it was good enough.

In contrast, when I ask those guys a question at Langlitz, they say no when they mean no and yes when they mean yes no matter how I want them to answer.

I am sorry if I upset you with the "cheap" thing but thats what I think of guys that attempt to steal designs and then un-engineer the important stuff for bottom line considerations.

I shouldn't respond to this because I have already started self medicating today, but.............. Some of you guys need to consider that just because you have found exactly what you are looking for at a price you think is fair doesn't mean it is the best thing in the whole wide world.

I truly believe in my heart that my wife is the best ridin gal for the money spent in the whole wide world, but I would never profess it on the net because one of you jerkoffs would just have to show me that I didn't look long enough before I made the deal..............

My wife, my house, my truck, etc........... I did the best I could with what I had to work with at the time. I don't regret any of my choices and I don't sit around a cry when someone points out that I could've done better and I certainly don't try to show how I made the BEST choice in the whole wide world.

So what's worse anyway? Someone in a pissing match over whose got the toughest leather, or someone like me bored enough to read all about it?

Sorry in advance if I offended any of you. It wasn't my intention. Love your leather man, or love your leatherman. holy crap, I think I just might of started a feud about the best multi-tool on the market..... I gotta stop typing........

For those that have bodies that can fit off the rack - Fox leather is Very good... I am 5'6" and short arms... I have Never found a jacket or long sleeve shirt that fit me right... Started back riding in 96 and wanted a good leather jacket... tried all the HD jacket and Everyone had sleeves that went to my finger tips... Until I found Johnson leathers in SF http://www.johnsonleather.com/ Allen - store owner/manager (for the price of HD) made me jacket that fit me perfect and I still wear it today - since then he has made me a complete perferated Leather jacket for Hot days and again, perfect fit... He does mail order and has Great customer service.. If you have a hard time finding a jacket that FITS - give him a call - Tell him the Turlock Firefighter sent ya.. Of Course, if you MUST had HD on your jacket - you will have to put on a patch... For me Plain Leather works great.. Nothing feel better than a well made jacket that FITS...
