I have heard mostly good things about these bars for a RK Classic and I really like the looks on the bike however to just buy and install without being able to try them out could be a costly lesson so.......can I get some opinions as to the comfort for someone my size. I am 5'9" and 165 lbs...I alaready like the looks on a RKC just wondering about overall comfort. I have mini apes on the bike now and while comfortable I'm just not sure I like the looks all that much.
Thanks..
I put them on my 05 Road King Classic. I am 5'8" & have a Corbin Close Solo seat. It did allow me to sit up straighter but I am not totally happy with them. My previous bar was HD Reduced Reach. It did not reduce the reach enough for me. The problem I have with the Chubbies is that they are too wide (as in almost beach bar) and the angle of the grips have too much wheelbarrow effect. The quality of their bars is unequaled in my opinion. If I had it to do over I would look at their mini apes.
I am 5' 10" and they are great for me. I sit up straight and no longer have the knife between the shoulder blades that I had with the stock bars. As for the "wheelbarrow effect" that tpmurray spoke of I don't see it personally, have a frind with Beach Bars and that is the definition of wheel barrow. Anyway, I was thinking as I live in Iowa I may be a little far for you to come over and try mine but if you did a post looking for someone on the Forum from your area you may be able to talk them into sitting on their bike to get a feel for them. I know this is not an all definitive test but it will give you an idea. When I first sat mine with the new 518's on my Road King I wasn't sure I had made the right choice and after the first ride I was even more skeptical. After awhile I realized that while I may not own this Road King forever, any Road King I do own will have Wild1 518's.
Call the guys at Wild 1, they are very helpful. I was looking at the 518 for my RK, discussed it with them and they recommended the 513 mini apes. The bars let me sit straighter and still have plenty of low speed control as well as keeping my wrists comfortable.
CSC, I'm about the same height as you and wouldn't have anything else on my bike....working at a HD dealer, I was able to tryafew others and the 518's are by far the best looking (IMO) and most comfortable.
I've read several posts about the 518s and only heard from a few who didn't like them. Give the folks at Chubby's a call and see what they would recommend, it won't cost you a dime. Also agree with setting on a bike with a set on it to see how you like the fit. Check out the pics & testimonials on their web site http://www.wild1inc.com/handlebars.html
