I had the HD 9" on mine from delivery and now have the KW 12". The KW is better than the HD 9", but it is still a short shield. It puts the wind at the top of my head, instead of in my face like the 9". It is mostly going to be a warm weather shield. I still have the stock one that I put on when it started getting cold last October. The KW is on now and will stay there till it gets cold again.

I agree with cderider. I have the 12" and is does smooth out the airflow on my upper torso WAY better than stock.

In all fairness to Klockwerks,I believe theshield was designed for a 110+ mph bike. Perhaps at increased speed there is more airfoil effect that increases the height of the dead air zone on the rider. At least Klockwerks took an innovative approach that seems dead at times when it comes to drag reduction and airflow.

At speeds between 60-80mph (where most of us ride) the flow effect is in a transition state (eddy current-like) and not clean yet.

Anyone with the 12" KW shield had the bike up to 100 yet?

My experience is that the buffeting I used to get with the stock windshield @ 65+ mph has smoothed out to a slipstream effect with the KW 12" shield.

Now, I'm looking at my helmet (a modular) and wondering if that is causing noise that can be eliminated. Some helmets are quieter than others.

Of course there are many variables (rider ht, wt, helmet type, body type, mechanical changes, etc.) that affect this equasion considerably.

I am glad to be able to afford the windshield and applaud the Klockwerks team for innovating instead of following the rest of the crowd.

Thanks for the input, I agree KW has a very innovative ideal with these shields, I just didn't get the results I expected from the 8". Now I did have the bike up 95 MPH and it felt solid and the air didn't seem any differant at that speed than at 60. If I knew I could get a little better protection from the 12" (at least the same as the HD 9.5) I would not hesitate to order the 12". the looks are outstanding. I think there are many different varibles that come into play with these shields, tour packs, lowers etc. My ride has no tour pac or lowers, and this may be why some people find the 8" as good or better than the HD 9.5". So if there is anyone out there who can give me a comparision between the two KW shields I would really appreciate it.

After reading all the negatives on the KW I noticed some were trying to replace their Clearview only to be disappointed. I was running the 18" HD and loved it on the highway but get into the twisties and the edge would distort the road and really screw me up!! I couldn't see over it enough but the lower shield blew my glasses all over. After reading about the Clearview I went to their site and liked what I saw. I ended up with the 16" flared, tinted shield with a vent. It wasn't cheap but it was a breeze to install and although it's not as good as the 18 incher it is very close and I love it in the twisties. Being able to see over it is huge. I'm 6' 4" tall but have a 38 inch inseam. I have a custom Corbin seat that is two inches taller and puts me two inches further back. I'm pretty normal above the waist. If I use the hand in the wind test I start feeling it at an inch or so above my helmet. I could ride with my old Harley hat on until I got mixed up with truckers at 75 then I had to hang onto it. I don't like the interstate anyway so that's not a big deal to me. It does what I wanted and I'm very satisfied. There is a 7 week waiting period, although mine didn't take that long, but it was worth it.

marvincbr, Glad to hear your satisfied with the 12"KW. Thanks for the feedback. I'm still on fence on ordering another shield, but I know the 8" won't be on there long. I seen you have lowers on the bike in the photo, have you tried the shield at all with out the lowers?

First this is just my opinion. The 12" looks great on bike. What do I really think about it though. It's an overpriced POS.

Took mine off and it ain't ever going back on. Anyone that wants to try it before wasting your money onone let me know. Give me a $75 deposit and pay shipping both ways and try it for a week are so. It ain't for sale, hopefully I can save people from wasting money. The price of shipping is cheaper than buying one and hating it.

Can you tell I won't be buying anything from KW again.

Ok, so you're saying the Heritage w/shield works better than the RG fairing? That is interesting.
Everyone raves about the RG handling, but lotta complaints about buffeting and noise.Hmmmf . . .

I know the batwing works good . . . But it's so close. Tradeoffs huh?
In my rental travels, I plan on a daytrip on a Roadking as well as a Roadglide.

I too liked the look of the KW shield, but after reading some of the results, I'm going with the Clearview GT large. I guess I've been spoiled with the great protection on the Heritage windshield. I can smoke behind that thing at 70 if I want too.

I'm 6'1 and right now the RG is no fun to ride at any speed above 50mph with the factory 12" sheild. That's even with the soft lowerson as well.

The lowers have been on the bike since I brought the bike home, I don't know how the shield would work without them. IMO, with or without the lowers would not change the way the wind comes over the top of the shield, if its gonna hit you in the face or chest.

I like the Heritage Shield OEMway better thanPOS 12" windshield on the RG. The RG windshield puts the wind right in myface. I'd might as well been riding my 90 FXR with nothing!

I'm not knocking the RG as in feel or handling. I like it a lot. The steering on the Heritage is heavier due to the wind pushing on the handle bars. The Heritage also sits way lower than the RG or even the RK. I find myself scraping the floorboards at times. The windshield is way bigger as well. I'm 6'1 with a 34" inseam. I can just look over the shield. The RG handles like it's on rails. It's that good. My Turbo SECA is like that as well. Both have frame mounted fairings.

Right now as they both sit? The Heritage with the stock windshield is offering me a lot more protection than the RG with it's OEM 12" shield. Even with the fabric lowers on. It would be unfair of me to say the RG fairing doesn't offer any protection because of the windshield. I have a Clearview GT smoked large ( 2' taller and 2" wider) on order. If I get at least the same protection as the Heritage...I'll be a happy camper.

When you go on your road trip, (even though the RK windshield is a little shorter than the Heritage), and the RG has a stock 12", your going to see the same results if your as tall as I am. When I dip my head down on the RG, it's way better than sitting up. If there's buffering I can't tell if there is more or less than the Heritage. Once I get the better windshield, then I'll be able to give you a better answer.

Oh..and I don't buy the fairing is further out. I just sat on the RG and measured how far away the windshield is from my chest. 30". The Heritage is 31". The Heritage windshield is 3-3 1/2" taller though and straight up. The RG sweeps up into my face. I think the Clearview with the re-curve is going to do the trick.

I can't comment on a Bat Wing because I've never ridden one.
