Ditto on the carbon fiber helmets from advanced carbon composites at www.carbonfiberhelmets.com. I have the non DOT, but, it just misses certification by a little bit. Their DOT verson is just a bit thicker. Very light, very strong. Much lighter than my HJC half helmet. I like mine a lot.
Also living in Cali and have been riding before & since the helmet required law... Seeing so many people after they go down - and the older I get I finally went with a Modular Helmet... Might as well have as much pretection as you can get seeing as it's the law you wear one any way...
