Default RE: Helmet Locks

For the occasions that I want to lock my helmet I just run a small padlock through the D ring on the helmet and then around the base of the mirror. Works as good as anything and is cheap too. I use a combination instead of a key so I won't lose the key.

Anyone had any experience with HD's helmet locks and if so where did you mount them?
Click on my pic and you'll see where most are putting them. It's the perfect place because the helmets won't touch the bike or ground due to the bike leaning that way with the kickstand down.

my cable is overkill as far as size goes, as long as you use the crimp type ends they are pretty tamper proof. I did make a set with a smaller cable that fit thru the D ring but I gave them away to a friend. The only time I use the cable is with the full faced helmets, my skid lids go directly onto the locks, or in the saddle bags.

As with any other lock,or securing device, it is just a deterrent. If someone wants your lid bad enough they'll get it off the bike somehow. With some of the fancy graphiced composite full faced helmets runing over 500 bucks, you don't want to leave them unsecured. Any junkie is going to see a potential 8 ball and doesn't care if the helmet is full of lice and 3 years worth of unwashed hair ol residue.

Yep, I also use a gun cable lock, sometimes one of the "Save the Children" freebies that our government paid for and one could grab by the handfulls sometime back. Running it through the "D" rings and around the mirror works. Currently, I am using a "Ruger" pistol lock, which has a shorter cable and is impossible to remove from around the mirror. Sure, if someone wants it bad enough they can take/break the mirror or cut the strap, but there is no stopping some putzes. Locks are for honest people and idiots anyway; Besides, the Ruger Eagle logo looks kind o cool.

p.s. - you can't beat the price either and I finally have a use for all those dad blame cable locks
