A sandy or salt air environment will cause LOTS of problems with a poor quality finish. If you want the chrome look with outstanding durability I recommend getting your lowers polished to a mirror finish then have them powder coated clear. The powder coat will seal the polished aluminum from oxidation and is very easy to maintain a high gloss.
ThanksPC. Go ahead and laugh[sm=laughat.gif] but I didn't even know there was a clear powder coat.
I really likepolishedmore than chrome and was just going to clean the remaining clear coat offand get after them with thesemi-chrome anyway.
I wonder why HD didn't just polish them at the factory and use clear powder coatinstead offinger-nail polish? Uhhhhh..... never mind, I think I know the answer to that one.
flharleycop BUG JUICE-- You can never chrome over bug juice, it will always bubble. For $25 or so $ you can buy brand new take-offs from your dealer. You than put on a protective film or chrome them. Do not take the chance of chroming your bug juiced lowers. R&R ing your lowers are somewhat easy. Look up DOGG for a step by step on your bike. Good luck. I just saw that you live in my town. Take a trip out to Al's @ Bikers Inc. as he just got in around 30 or so.
You've got a good point too Howard - pick up some take-offs andchrome, polish, powder-coat,whatever. Then R&R.
I just moved to Florida in July 07 and I've already noticed my 06 lowers are much worse than when they were in Virginia. And that's where I put on over 23,000 miles. I've only put on about 7,000 since my move to Florida.
I had the chrome lowers installed from day one on my '07 Ultra. Nearly 17K and they're perfect! I live on the water in NC and get plenty of bugs stuck on them too. Go for the chrome. It's the best.
for christ sake for 400 bucks it better be top quality
is that the price or is part of that shipping?
Yep, that's the price we pay at the stealer in the Netherlands [:@]
From now on I will order my goodies at www.mandmcycles.com
even with shippingcosts and import taxes I'll save about 50%
