I started with 204 cams and a ThunderMax andthe bike ran really well. This inspired me to do the 103" BB and go to hotter cams, again the bike runs great. I do my own work so I save that money.

Maybethis summer, the heads.

I believe that the Andrews 54 was designed as a bolt in replacement for the 96". Will work with 103" also.

That cam is making some good numbers in a 96. And it was designed specifically for the 96 so that is what I would go with.

Andrews 54 is a high lift, higher compression cam...not a straight bolt in for a stock compression 96"!

That goes against everything I've read about the 54. Supposed to be a relatively mild cam designed to be a torque monster bolt in for the 96".

Not exactly designed as a bolt in/stock CR cam...54H (.555 Hi-lift)...for 96/103 engines CR up to 10:1

There are guys getting great results by bolting this cam in. Some are leaving the heads in place (SE adjustable push rods), some are going to a .030 head gasket retaining stock push rods. Check out this link. There are some dyno charts included I think.

I really get the feeling alot of guys on here do the big inch builds just to say they have a big inch motor. I'm probably gonna take hell for that statement, but it's what I think. Yes I know power is addictive, I drive a Cobra and it's not what you would call stock. Jes sayin. Try the bolt in, you may like the bike just how it is at that point
And your point is ?? Why you driving a Cobra and not an Escort??

Bolt in cams, the HQ 500 is a good one and will easily work with bigger bore and headwork later on. Another option is the Woods TW6, and again will still work as you "grow" the engine. Some of the otheres suggested are problematic in that they are not adaptable as you continue to build the engine.

I am not a fan of the Andrews or HD cams, there are a lot of them out there and some swear by them, but not what I would use, just my .02 cents.

That's what is good about the Woods TW-6 cam.............it will work great in a 96" and it will still work great in the 103".

Biggest thing is to not over-cam the 96" trying to save later to have it work with the 103" build.
