Having problems with my PCIII. Just got it from FuelMoto last week and am running one of Jamie's maps. After the bike runs for a bit and warms up, it all of the sudden stalls. I checked and double checked the throttle min and max values and they are spot on. Alsodisconnected and reconnected all of the wiring with no improvement.
Basically when I run the engine, the leanest bar on the pciii is lit up. Then all of the sudden the center bar lights up briefly and the engine bucks and stalls. I get "Device Error: 39" on my laptop when this happens. The warmer the bike gets the more it wants to stall. It even stumbles at around 1500 RPM every once in a while.
When I bypass the PCIII and reconnect my ECU back to stock, the engine runs fine.
Any ideas??? Is there a glossary for the device errors? I highly doubt it's Jamie's map, but so far I am very disappointed with the PCIII. Almost ready to order a SERT.
I just installed mine from Fuel Moto last night on my '08. Only rode about a 1/2 hourtoday, but no issues at all (getting used to new smells and added power will take a bit though). Plan on doin' a few hundred miles tomorrow and will pay close attention after she's good and warm. I would call FM and ask about it.
I can't be of much help to troubleshoot your problem, as I haven't heard of those symptoms before, but it almost certainly isn't Jamie's map. A bad PCIII is rare, but like everything else it happens. Be patient and call Jamie Monday morning. He'll do what he can, I'm sure.
Here is a link to issues I had on my 08. The second PCIII I received failed to operate correctly as well and had to go back. Hopefully you can get better results than I did. I wound up putting on a Fuelpak and so far AOK. I have put on a few hundred miles with it so far and not one caugh or stumble. Just an FYI, I am not the only one that had issues that could not be corrected on an 08.
I purchased my bike back in October. Didnt have to order it. I dont know when it was actually built...Who knows? Maybe Harley changed the harness again or something.
All I know is that it isn't the original equipment causing the problem. Definitely the PCIII as bypassing it made the bike idle beautifully. I even purged, reset and installed a fresh map in the PCIII and got the same results.
I will see if Jamie can ship me another. If I have the same problems with it, then I will probably go with SERT or whatever that new on the market tuner from Harley is called.
I even went as far as trying a "0" map and ran into the same problem. Must be something between the ECM and PC not getting along. I was dissapointed that I couldn't get one to work. I have had excellent results with the PC on other bikes and was hoping for the same here.
I too received a "device Error 39" and asked Jamie what it was, he said he did not know and the next time it came up to call him, he said he would pobably have to contact the manuf. for any info, if you should find out what it means, post it on the forum, I's curious. My bike (2004 Electric Glide) seems to running okay but due to the weather I haven't had a chance to try it out.
I was extremely hesitant to get a PCIII based on my dealer's honest assessment of customer feedback with PCIII vs SERT, but I decided to take the plunge based on Jamie's experience and the suggestions of several forum members. I am willing to pay for reliability as no one wants a broken down bike on the side of the road. Just hope whatever happens, the PCIII will be as reliable as a remapping of the stock ECU.
