No squeal, but was getting a noise at full stop. Did my 5K and saw that I had only 1/16 inch of pad left. Now I occassionally have a bad habit of draging the rear brake, but 5k on a set of pads is kinda low. Was worried about the replacement with ABS - but read my shop manual - yeah the one it took 6 months to get - and it was really no different than any other caliper and pads - just disconecting a wire going to the ABS sensor
bikerbehaviorist You are correct. There is no difference in the ABS and standard Brimbo pad P/N. The difference is on the outside and not the pads.
Please keep in mind that with Lyndall Racing Brakes;[ul][*] There is no brake pad corrosive dust[*]No noise (unless you have a sticking caliper piston that you need to clean)[*]Nno wish-wish sound[*]Stops in much less braking distance than stock (do a search for members who measured the difference)[*]Gets approximately 18,500 miles before replacement (actual mileage varies to riders style)[*]Will not harm your rotors at all. This means if you started out with brand new mirror polished rotors, and did not go metal to metal, the rotors would still be mirror polished.[/ul][ul][*]I provide a MONEY BACK GUARANTEED subjective in the customer's[/i][/b] opinion to be the best brake pad[/b] you have ever run.[/ul]
mine squealed too only a 100 miles on it took a can of brake klean and shot some on the pads worked for about 200 miles and now it's slowly starting to come back
Rented an '08 Ultra back in Sept that was brand new (11 miles on it) and it squealed from day one. Bought an '08 Street Glide in December and the rear has squealed since day 3. Really annoying.
Yep...just changed my front pads to Lyndall Z+. Haven't got the rear pads on yet, but have them in the garage ready to install. I was so tired of hearing that scraping "woosh woosh" sound at slow speeds...almost embarrassing when riding through town. Front brakes are silent now and rear brakes will be today. It's wise to get some good brake cleaner spray and clean your calipers before putting the new pads on. Also get some brake grease and lube the pad pins. NAPA has the small squeeze pouches for a buck and one pouch will do several brake jobs...takes just a thin layer.
08's are different than earlier model bikes. Some say nothing has helped, pads, grease, whatever. Dealer told me last week he would do whatever (within reason I'm sure) I would like them to try. I don't thinkthe service mgr.thinks anything will help but knows about it and will try. I'm going to set up an appointment with him when I realize the squeeeeel is not going away. I think I'll ask them to grease the backs of some new pads. If that doesn't work, there's only one thing left........................rotar, which I aint messing with!
I believe if there was an easy fix for a multiple complaint customer, they would fix it, whether it was a pair of inexpensive pads or a little brake grease. They're taking them apart and cleaning them to no avail as it is and there is a cost involved in that.
Strange!
On my first Harley the brakes squealed I installed Lyndall pads the squealing stopped. On my second Harley the brakes squealed I installed Lyndall pads the squealing stopped. I just bought my 3rd Harley and installed Lyndall pads from the get-go. Boy, it does not take me long to catch on.
