................................................Th ere is no out-of-pocket expense to H.O.G. members for covered services received up to $100. Members simply sign the invoice from the provider to verify that service was received. For services over the $100 per occurrence, per year limit, the member is responsible for any non-covered expenses or expenses in excess of $100.............................................. ..............
So does that meen you only get $100 / year??? $100 / occurrence / year...???...

That would meen you can ONLY use them once a year if you unluckey enough to need them more then that your on your own...???...

At least thats the way I am reading that...

RON
That's exactly what it means... but if you go to their website and look they have at least 2 other plans that you can choose and pay extra for that provides better coverage. The choice is yours.

I have been wondering aboiut this service. I have had AAA Plus for a lot of years and can get a tow for up to 100 miles at no charge. Does anyone know why I wouldn't be able to use AAA for the bike too?

Regarding the membership, won't it be difficult to call someone from the chapter membership list if you aren't a member?
You have to have RV coverage...extra $$ to your membership...still I pay for that over the HOG insurance.

I'm going to the CA HOG rally this year. It's in Victorville, ca. I have family there so I don't need a hotel which works for me.

Damn, Victorville in the hot part of summer..... only about 120 degrees, the second hottest place in California... only second to 29 Palms......

I will be there too, last year it was in Fresno same month, froze my *** off in the snow on a ride...

I had good experience a couple of years ago, had a flat, was picked up by HOG with a motorcycle specific trailer, (wish I owned that trailer ) I was taken to San DIego Harley, changed the rear tie, had me back on the road in about an hour after the bike got to them..... had a great experience considering I got a flat, they even bought me a soda whaile I was there.... out of pocket expense $0.00 never went to a dealer without spending money before....

To All,

Last July on a Sunday afternoon my gal and I are crusin down astate highway, went to stop at a stop sign....NO REAR BRAKE!! A long story short, broken oil line, cracked fittingin the bottom of the oil pump, oil everywhere!!!

Just happened to be between larger towns, but right in the middle of a lil one (not on a map) so I called HOG....Over an hour on and off with people who were English language challenged! Yep, another three way call with we'll call you back........another hour went by. Beautiful day, sitting in a parking lot.

Phone rang!! English speaking person!! GREAT!! Says he'll be there in 45 minutes, Got a trailer, ok. Even knew where we were!!

This guy showed up with a converted boat trailer, near 3 foot of the ground! No front wheel chock, two wood planks to load and a Walmart comealong, which he proceded to wrap aroundthe forks!! Didn't happen!! Talked him into using a nylon strap on the crash bar, Duh.

Another 45 min, him on the comealong, my gal and me trying to hold up my Dresser up a 40 degree set of boards. Yep, got her loaded and tied down and madeit home. Was closer than the Dealership. Easier to unload, used the sideditch at home. The fee?? He said just sign here!

Well thats my experence with HOG. Still a member....Figure it can't be that bad again?? Ya think??

Hog informed me they would not tow me to a closed dealer (didn'twant to go there anyway). I have no idea where the nearest open dealer was, but I can assure you it was nowhere near my residence, and probably at least 200 miles away. HOG WILL tow you to your house or wherever you like, within reason. The service I recieved from HOG was 0, nothing. Three plus hours along the road and I got nothing. Also, do you realize how far the $100.00 provided by HOG will tow you? You can probably push your bike that far. Seriously, your looking at about 10 miles. It's not up to Hog to set a price. You are at the mercy of the towing company. HOG finally told me they had calleda towing company in the nearby town of Emleton. I looked up the number and called them myself. I asked the spokes personhow much to tow me to several different places (chapt members house, summer cottage, my house, etc.) The prices were astronomical. Save the membership money and put it toward a breakdown fund. My Progressive insurance will handle all my towing needs from now on,

**Also, my local HOG chapter told me I was welcome on any rides or functions as their guest.

Other than HOG sponsored rallies it's not worth it. IMO.
You can still attend the HOG rallies, just not eligible for
HOG member only dinners, pins, door prizes etc.

Everything else (except magazine) you can get elsewhere with little
or no cost.
Maps / atlases off the web, at gas stations, visitors bureaus and for those
of you that just have to have it GPS.

Off road assistance / towing tiple A (AAA) or your insurance company.

Our dealers don't offer any special discounts for being a HOG member so nothing
there.
Area and national rides off the web, and in free magazines.

In other words HOG doesn't pay for anything.
All you got is a $100 deductible towing policy.
Most tows are going to be over 25 miles.
Which means your bill will be over $100 and you still
Haven't had the bike fixed yet.
If the repair is NOT covered by the warranty, you will have to pay
the repair in full out your pocket, because as the HOG statement says
Free $100 per incident and only one per year!
Unless of course you opt to go with the more expensive upgraded membership.
No thanks!!
Better and more efficient options are available.

Read This Post, Mine expired and I'm not renewing!:

With HOG memberships due, I thought I would share my experience with a flat tire and dealing with HOG. It was a Sunday afternoon ride, just the wife and I, when the dreaded flat tire struck. First flat in about a zillion years of riding. For those who are interested, it was the rear tubed tire, went down immediately, you have no time to react...in fact I wasn't sure what happened, but I got the bike stopped on the berm safely.

Called HOG. I was transfered around about three times and finally told that someone woud call me back.An hour went by with no return call, so I called again. Same deal...someone will call you right back. Another half hour and I finally got someone to tell my problem to. FYI...you are dealing with a road hazzard insurance company out of Florida. The individual I spoke to was....shall we say...English challenged. We had a serious communication problem.

I told this man where I was at and I needed a tow. He had trouble locating me on a map. I kept telling him I was on route *** about 5 miles from city "A" and about 8 miles from city "B". The hunt for me continued for about 1/2 hour when he decided to get help and call me right back. Another 15 minutes and he calls back and we now have a three way conversation with our new member also "English challenged."

Between the two of them they found Cities "A" & "B" and the road I was on, but they wanted to know exactly where I was at. Since I was parked next to a sign the said 8 miles to city "B" I told them exactly where I was at.They still had trouble, apparently thinking there should be an "X" on the map that marked my location. Finally, out of frustration, I asked can you see city "A"? "Yes" Can you see city "B" and the road between the two? "Yes" I'll be the only "f"ing motorcycle sitting at the 8 mile sign with a flat tire!!

We'll call you right back. Another half hour.....and they call to inform me there were no dealerships near me open on Sunday. I already knew this, and explained I wanted towed home. (By the way...they will not send someone out to fix your tire which is what I had hoped for.) "OK, we'll find someone to tow you home and call you right back.

In the meantime, my wife got a membership list of our local chapter. I found a member whose address was located about 15 miles away. I called him, and by luck found him home. He had a trailer and would be glad to come get me if the HOG deal fell through.

HOG calls back...informs me that I am 48 miles from home and will cost $398.00 to tow me home...of which HOG would pay $100.00.

Ouch!! OK how much to tow me 15 miles to my chapter members house? $398.00 and HOG would pay $100.00. WTF?? I told HOG I would callTHEMback.

Called my chapter member...he came....we loaded up my bike and he took me home. Wouldn't even take gas money. (I'm going to give him a HDgift certificate.)

My wife just informed me my HOG membership is due. How much is that magazine worth????

Just to let you know. I called the roadside assistance company that tracks and calls for pickups. They will tow to a closed dealer. The reason calls are dealyed is not because of HOG. Roadside assistance calls nearest registered dealer for pick-up. If they are not avalible they call nearest towing facility and not all want to tow motorcycles. Towing expense is always given before pickup and dealer if willing is called in advance. Sounds like the problems with phone calls is a dealer or towing facility issue.
As for HOG rallies being exspensive,I have attended many in different states and at $45.00 for the entire event for 2 day's. Not bad. That usually includes a shirt, pin and other gifts. Other expenses are from community, which HOG has no control over. I have been a member for years, have a great local chapeter that I enjoy riding with and being involved in raising money for local events. Go HOG. I will really enoy the expensive FREE party in mIlwaukee this summer and will pay the expensive $25.00 to see Aerosmith and Kid Rock.

Actually,

You need to have the AAA plus with RV/Motorcycle coverage to get a tow from AAA with your motorcycle.

It was $139/yr as I recall. AAA Plus will cover towing up to 100miles and some other stuff such as a Bail Guarantee card(a "get out of jail free card") for traffic offences that require bail (No DUIs, Murder, Rape, etc.).
I haveAAA Plus for backup for my roadtrips on my bike.
...
Just wanted to clarifythat point before someone buys the standard AAA (or HOG) and has a nasty (and lonely) surprise on the road.
No, you can elect to purchase AAA RV (at least in California) which covers towing for $27.00 / year vs. HOG for $45.00 / year. You're talking about AAA PLUS PREMIUM RV which is their top-tier coverage. You only purchase the $139.00 / year level if your want to. The AAA standard RV (covers the motorcycle) is all I need as it covers up to $200.00 per occurrence for four occurrences per year. And AAA will tow your motorcycle ANYWHERE YOU WANT: to your house, your buddy's house, your indy, your ex...you get the picture.

Sometimes when we rant and rave we don't know what we are talking about. This is cut & pasted from the HOG website concerning their roadside assistance program. It states they will tow you to the closest HD Dealership, not your friends house !!! If it's on the weekend the dealer may not be open and you may have to wait until they are. You can pay more for a better program that will cover some of your other expenses. The one you get for your membership fee is the basic plan as outlined below. If you don't like the program then the best thing you can do is get out. If you need it towed to the closest HD dealer and they are closed what is AAA or anyone else going to do for you ???

If an active full or full life H.O.G. member is stranded due to a covered problem, contact Road America to arrange for a tow to the nearest authorized Harley-Davidson dealership. Their toll-free number is on the back of your membership card. (Please note that authorized Harley-Davidson dealerships are not open 24/7.) Road America will send an authorized service provider for assistance. There is no out-of-pocket expense to H.O.G. members for covered services received up to $100. Members simply sign the invoice from the provider to verify that service was received. For services over the $100 per occurrence, per year limit, the member is responsible for any non-covered expenses or expenses in excess of $100. Road America can assist you with towing service, fuel/fluid replacement (does not cover cost of fuel/fluid) and extrication assistance. Certain restrictions and/or exclusions apply.
[/quote]

Well let me tell you of my experience with Road America.......I have got the ultra coverage plan that includes 2 motorcycles and 3 cars. Have never needed the plan for motorcycle but have used it for son's car and wife's suV ...HAD TO WAIT FOR OVER 3 1/2 HOURS FOR A TOW FOR WIFE'S SUV THAT BROKE DOWN ONLY 6 MILES FROM HOUSE...First tow driver was coming from a town that was about 45 miles away they (RA) claimed this was nearest tow operator ......1 1/2 hours later Road America calls and says they have to find another tow operator...HUH ...WTF? O.K....Find one...Finally 1/2 hour later operator calls and is sending a truck from a different town only 30 miles away...wait a minute now....I tried to give Road America SEVERAL DIFFERENT OPERATORS IN OUR DIRECT AREA AND WAS REFUSED BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT ON "LIST"...Well anyway from the time I called until the time the suv was put on a rollback was over 3 1/2 hours ...Just glad we weren't on the motorcycle in the middle of nowhere cause it was about 35 degrees outside....Tow driver was friendly and efficient....After he was notified!.....While talking with tow driver (and telling him of the ordeal) he informed us that Road America has a bad reputation in the industry on reimbursing the tow drivers this was why no one (tow truck operators) in our area wanted to deal with them.....If you do have this assistance plan GOOD LUCK!!! Hope there is someone in your area where you break down!!!
