I always break 'em in with regular HD oil and change it at 1000, 3000, and go to synthetic somewhere around 5 or 6 k. I always change the filter and gaskets too. Once I have synthetic in it I usually go 4-5k between changes. Best o'luck !
What is the purpose (benefit) of breaking in with dino fuel and waiting to switch to synthetic at 5 or 6k? The CVOs have synthetic out the showroom door.
My logic, flawed or not, is that regular oil is cheap enough and while the motor is breaking in I want to change it more frequently at first in the event of metal shavings/particles. Once I get to around 4 or 5k I figure I'll put heat reducing, better vicosity synth in and maybe go alittle farther between changes.
When I picked up the ride I changed the oil at 500 miles, you could see alot of metal shavings on the oil drain plug, wondered how much in the filter. Had it done at 1k and I was riding in the cold 'til mid November in Western NY and it had moisture with it, changed to syn. and will change with 5k intervals.
