So can anyone elighten me as to what the black wire on the cruise control (that I had to tape back) is for?
Does the AVC need cruise control to work? I would have thought not?
What can I check (and how)what controls the bike speed to the AVC on thethe audio unit?
I believe you have to be travelling over 30mph before the AVC kicks in?
Are there any checks that the dealership can do on the equipment to check the AVC is working?
Do Harmon Kardon have a site dealing with audio issues?
I refuse to give up on this!

The headunit getsthe bike speed signal from a white with green stripe wire; if you check the Base Audio Connector (that big plug attached to the rear of the radio), you should see it. That wire is also there for the cruise control. It's part of the bike's main wiring harness and gets its signal from the vehicle speed sensor via the ECM.
I don't know how to diagnose the VSS, but it may be the problem.
