I am having some issues with the volume control on my 08 Ultra classis. I can turn it down but not up. I thought is was the volume switch on the handlebar so I replace it and that seem to fix it for a few weeks, now it is acting up again. Sometimes it will work, sometimes not. I am beginning to think it may be a connection inside the fairing in where the harness connects to to the audio system or the audio system itself. Anyone else had this problem? If so, what was the fix.
I had the same problem, almost. I could turn the volume UP, but not down, at least not all the time. I thought it was the switch as well, so I bought a new one to swap out. Prior to doing that project, my whole HK radio died and I replaced it with a Biketronics/Sony system. My volume control works fine now. It may be a connection or it may be your radio.
You are on the right track. It sure sounds like an intermittent contact....either a broken wire, shorted wire, poorly seated wire to a pin, or something along those lines. The fact that it did work when you installed the new switch says the radio is not broke. So it's somewhere between the volume rocker switch and the radio. I would suspect something is shorting in the switch housing if it worked for a while after you changed the switch.
Went out to the garage today and turned it on, volume works fine. Had planned on pulling the front of the fairing off and tinkering with the connections, guess I'll just leave well enough alone for now but will check those connections. Thanks for all the input. Curious about the "software update". Need more info on this please.
