the chromecover doesn't actualy sit right on top of the regulator, rather has a stand off of about 1/2 inch so plenty of coolingair gets around it. no problems so far on my bike either
I like the look of the chrome regulator cover and it was on my list for the next time I'm in a dealership. But then I read something in the latest edition of American Iron that makes me wonder if these covers cause the regulators to run hotter than they should leading to premature failures. Thoughts?
The regulator will absolutely run hotter [sm=signs007.gif]
found out the hard way that the cover won't work on a '07 UC with the premium oil cooler. the stand-offs on the cover interfere with the hoses from the cooler. looks like if i want to have chrome there, i'll have to buy the chrome regulator.
Another thing to watch for with those covers is the wires rubbing against the cover, so be careful how you route them. We were on a trip a few years ago and a buddy's bike kept going to a dead short and tripping the curcuit breaker causing the bike to die while riding down the road. After some fiddling with the usual suspects the bike would start again. This scenario played out several times until the intermitent short was found, cover removed and wire taped. Just one of those freak things to store in the back of your head, just in case.
