I cut my windshield
Thanks to the info on this forum and especially to Bill Nourse for his instructions in the DIY forum, I cut my windshield down by 2 1/4 inches yesterday. I didn't like the windshield before (and didn't keep it on the bike) b/c the top edge was in my line of sight. I found myself either croutching to look through or straining to look over. Now it's perfect. The only thing I did differently from Bill's instructions was to hand sand the cut with 120 grit paper after the belt sander and before the finishing sanding. I think I needed to do this because I was a little timid with the belt sander.
This is a great forum!

The ol' guys on this forum are pretty good about helping newbies out. I had the same question last summer and was able to find a guy locally who did the same thing. You described to a 't' the same problem that I had. Now I look over the windshield instead of straining to see through it or lifting my butt off the seat to look over it.
Hope you stick around...there's more to learn here!
Best wishes.

I traced the bottom windshield pattern and cut it off about 1 1/2" with a jig saw, then redrilled the 3 mounting holes. Works great! Since its hidden in the fairing, no extra sanding and shaping required.
I wish that I had thought of taking 'after' pictures but I wasn't thinking about it. Something to think about before doing it; I now get a little bit more wind buffeting the top of my head...something that wasn't as apparent before I cut the windshield.
In my mind it was still a good tradeoff because staring at the top of the windshield was a problem in that I couldn't see the full road in front of me. The guy who cut it mentioned that only 1.5 to 2.0 inches are all that most folk need to cut.
There are probably a number of windshield shops in town that would do it for you. It only cost me $20 at the time.

I cut mine 2" 'cause I got tired of trying to look over and around it all the time, but I got greedy and now I find 2" off was too much for me.
2" is a lot more material than you might think. It resulted in more buffeting around my head, moreso with a full face helmet, less protection in the rain, but I can SEE how badly I ride real well now.

W/o a before picture I'm not sure if you'll see the difference but here is the after shot...
