As far as gas prices, it's supply and demand.
Oil prices are set on the world market. With China and India increasing their energy needs, there is not as much oil left on the market. The so-called âBig Oilâ companies can not set that price.
Remember, the president tried to get us domestic oil from ANWAR. All the environmental people screamed "NO!"
Can we drill off the coast of Fla? All the old people say "NO!"
Even if we were awash in domestic oil, we can not refine it. The refineries are at 97% capacity, no time for maintenance. Optimal is about 85%.
Can we build more refineries? âNO!â Not in my back yard.
Then, lets talk about the EPA. There are 22 different blends for gasoline, depending on what part of the country you live in. The EPA sets the formula. The refineries can make only so much of formula number one before moving on to formula number 2.
Again, supply and demand.
Oh, then taxes! Here in NC, we are the most taxed state in the southeast. Thank you Gov. Easley.
As far are hydrogen, that is a pipe dream. Hydrogen does not have the energy (BTU's) that oil does. If you get 40 mpg with gas, you'll get maybe 15 with hydrogen.
Plus, if we crack the H2O molecule, there ain't no going back. Once that water is converted, it will not convert back to water.
What do we want to run out of? Oil or Water?
The solution is simple. Drill ANWAR; drill the coast of Fla. Build more refineries.
(off of my soapbox now)
+1
Drill for it, or pay for it.
Our use of itis not going to decline. Bio fuels are not going to get it. There is no shortage of oil domestically and no GOOD replacement for it.
A better technology will come along butis still along way off.
I just bought myself a Yamaha Vino 50cc scooter. It gets 120mpg!!! It makes my Street Glides 48mpg seem like a gas hog. Of course I have to give up mysense of manhood to ride it, but it is still pretty fun.
Could you ever imagine the moment you sell your HD because gas was too high? Ya, me neither!
I have to say I agree forget about the Methanol gas from corn all it did is double the price of feed corn here in Tennessee. My buddies that raise cattle are in bad shape..And that cost just gets passed on down to us all

It's a damn shame. Most powerful country in the world and were Dependant on Middle East and China...
WAKE UP AMERICA, time to go back to work...
I'm an Auto Technician and installed a Master Cylinder on a Chevrolet Truck, the part was Made in Italy..
My F-250 diesel is an butt kicker to fill, but I have no choice in the matter. It does not make fiscal since to buy something that gets better mileage as it would take years to ROI that one. Rode about 110 miles yesterday just "looking" around and listening to music on the SG. Won't cut back, not one mile, not one day less. Hell my lawn mower drinks more gas than my bike!! F'n stihl blower (600) and weedeater drink gas/oil mix like a bunch of drunks knocking back beers at a stag party.
Now that I explained it to you, just go back to your day-to-day drudgery of struggling to get to work so you can struggle to pay the bills so you can struggle to remain alive long enuff to die.......
Cost me 18.25 to fill my RG the other day and that was putting mid grade fuel in it! My F-150 4X4 always sits a lot but nowdays it will be sitting even more. [sm=biker2.gif]
