I have a 94 snap on truck I use in case someone needs to be picked up or if I need to drop bike at stealers. It's a diesel $3.53 a gal here in SC. Needless to say you had best not break down too far away.
10,000 miles at 40 miles per gallon = 250 gallons of fuel. At $3.00 a gl that's $750.00 and at $4.00 a gl that's $1000.00
I won't be cutting back any on the bike in fact I'll be riding more. My 4x4 pickup that gets 15mph will be sitting a lot.
I've got 2 pickups that WILL sit untill fuel prices come back out of the stratosphere! I've been riding the scoot, sold my 1300 VTX so I can buy a 400 or so to ride to work, and am thinking about making the smaller bike 100% Methanol fueled. I ran a Mehanol fueled race car in the 70's and I'm sure a scoot can be converted to use it with a little "tweaking" of the bike and the fuel. I refuse to let the towelheads keep robbing me! Our elected officials don't seem to want to help fix the situation, even though we control more than 60% of the world's food supply and could create utter caos if we just cut off ALL food exports. It should be: one bushel of wheat = 2 barrels of oil. Let em drink that Oil for awhile, I'll bet their "attitude" would change FAST!

Same here. I put 4k on my car last year, 13k on the SG. The car gets 28mpg in town, if I try real hard, and the bike 40mpg--which is a meaningful difference. I do grocery shopping and other errands as well as recreational riding on the bike, and about the only time I use the car is bad weather and any time I need the storage space.
They're saying $4/gal. nationwide this spring, and it's already above that in parts of CA. When it hits $4 and climbs to $5 and beyond, people will start thinking fuel economy and buying more sensible vehicles.
