With the market the way it is, I think you could do much better.

Look at cycle trader and ebay and craiglist. Bikes that are 3-4 years newer with less mileage are selling for less. If it is just the trade in issue (and the dealer has already told you what he will give) put it out on the market for the offered trade in and see if you get a bite.

There is an 04 Road King local w/13K miles asking price $12,500.

FWIW last July, I gave $10500 for an 02 Ultra with 40K and a stage 2 95" w/cams. New tires and lots of extra's included (helmet rain gear, liners, racks, pegs tender etc...). Sheer luck and from what I've heard 02 was a very good year for the ultra (tinken baring swing arms, delphi and such)

Be patient and help out some poor soul who had to have a harley then but has to let it go now.

Deet

I have a buddy that just bought a 99 Ultra last year with 12 k on it and the cam bearings failed.. 2 months after he bought it the dealer we deal with replaced them for $ 650. and some change....Not a month later the stator went and the regulator so that cost him also...I replaced the cams and cam bearings in mine at 24,000 and the chain tensioner's were marginal they might have made another 10k but I am glad I did it now... Like everyone here has said it is a little high on the price.....I would shop around if it was me, but its your decision not ours.... Good luck what ever you decide....

Ya, thats the other thing I almost forgot. I'm on my third stator. That I know of, asI bought the bike at 27,000 kms. I changed a stator around 30 and another one at around 60. I've now got around 65,000. I don't run cam chain tensioners so that hasn't been an issue with mine.
Also, since it appears as though there may be some confusion. Rear cam bearing failure is most common in 99 and early 2000 bikes. Can chain tensioners are on all stock twin cams. They need regular attention and will all wear out. If you let them go too far, they will break up into little pieces that may get into your oil pump and or all through your engine possibly blocking oil passages and causing big problems. They can be monitored with regular maintenance.

OK...so the price for a '99 @ $12,500 is high (Kelly Blue Book be damned).
Cam bearings may be on the outs (unless I can find out otherwise.).
I should shop around (although I don't have cash, and I have a 2000 Harley
Fatboy I can't sell for $10,000. I sold my Goldwing and now my G/friend is
complaining we have no bike to ride together. Fatboy has solo seat.
(that is the hurry part)
OK. I think I will ride to another Harley dealer this weekend to see if
they have any Ultra Classics 2002-2004. Take my $7000 cash from my
Goldwing and my Fatboy as a trade....and finance a couple thousand.
Thanks for all your oppinions. I will check back and see if anything else has been added.
(Oh....the G/friend said the 'new' bike can't be:
'BEE' Yellow, green, Orange, Torqouise, or black. White one only if there is nothing else.
Dark blue is fine. Dark red (no fire engine red) fine. Not so keen on grey.
I sold the Goldwing she loved...now I am screwed (not literally).
She is going away for a week next week....and expects to ride whenshe comes back! LOL
(that '99 looks gooder and gooder...it was dark blue/silver..same as my Fatboy)

Why not get a new seat for the fat boy for now? And maybe a backrest and saddlebags so you can go wherever whenever. A whole lot cheaper than 12,500.

How about trading in the girlfriend? Lots of cash left on that deal

I hope that new girlfriend can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch.
Make sure you get a bike that you love, she may not be around forever.

It's like this.
I HAD a Goldwing. IWANT a Harley Tourer with a TOURPACK.
I am selling/trading the Fatboy.
I have found a 1999 that seems to be over priced.
The original question was not 'how to modify my Fatboy' or
"should I dump my girlfriend."
Thanks for all the replies that pertained.
