acadien you did substitute the stock spacer with the thin spacer that comes with the kit am I correct because if you didn't that would be your problem, this spacer goes on the sprocket side and is item #6 on the parts list on the back page of the instructions that came with the kit.
Its been a while since I did mine, but I don't think you can get it together if you use the wrong spacer. It is a snug fit.
Acadien yes I did install mine and I was able to put the spacer in without having to do any prying, was snug but was able to put it in with my fingers, you might want to check your bearing and make sure it is seated properly in the bearing well ,good luck.
What is the life expectancy of the IDS? IS there anything we can do do field check the IDS to make sure it's ok?
Just got back from Daytona and I heard on good authority that a least one IDS bowl failed because of a bad casting. I'm going to make sure to inspect the bowl every time I have the rear wheel off (which based on tire wear appears to be about every 10k miles).
We installed the IDS on a blaci six-spoke slotted wheel. The IDS bowl does bottom out on the wheel hub and does not fit agianst wheel hub flange. We had to machine a small chamfer in the hub to allow the IDS to set flat on flange. If not the bowl is pulled down causing the bowl to fracture, causing a failure. This simple mod can be performed on many aftermarket wheels also. this is probalby what happened to yours. We are a dealer that checked.
07 SG -
Talked to the local dealer SM before I purchased it, he said no issues for my application
Had the dealer install the bearing, I didnt have the tools
Installed my IDS 3 weeks ago on a stock 07 RoadGlide silver 9 spoke wheel.
Reinstallation was tight in the swingarm but went together with no problemsbut glad I had a shop table lift to work on
Only about 500 miles on it so far so Ill wait & see
Would someone post a pic of the 6 spoke wheel mentioned here so I'll know what theyre talking about
Like I said in the other tread about IDS my friend neglected to inform me he had change his rear wheel and I checked and it was one of those that the Ids didn't fit so that was the cause of the scraped and broken IDS.I checked the P/N at the dealer and are stock wheel should be alright.
