I agree, it cleans up the fenders nicely, especially the front fender.
If you haven't installed one yet, you should consider installing the HD PN 91140-04 bracket--it's what Road Glides, Street Glides, and Road King Customs use in place of the rear bumper to tie the saddlebag support brackets to the rear fender. It's about 40 bucks. Without the bracket the chrome struts tend to spread; in fact, if you didn't use it you will probably see a gap at the bottom of those chrome struts. (I'm not sure if they are called "struts," but they are found on the left and right sides of the fender at the rear of the bike.)
I pulled mine too, and then put them back on. For my bike I like the look of the bumpers, but agree it does make a big difference. For a sleeker leaner look it looks real good.
